2.0 out of 5 stars Great deck, poor production
I have the original 1988 version of this deck and it is far superior. The new edition is on flimsier card stock, and the cellophane wrappers around the cards were stuck TO the cards due to an excess of glue. So I have 2 damaged cards with white spots where the color was removed with the wrappers. Also, the book has a front cover that is over twice as wide as the back...

5.0 out of 5 stars A sophisticated synthesis of Tarot, Astrology and Mythology., September 21, 1999

This review is from: The Elemental Tarot (Paperback)
The Elemental Tarot is a beautiful deck. Its sophisticated simplicity and combination of ancient archetypes and mythological symbols will give advanced tarot students an abundance of information which conbines Tarot, Astrology, Myth, Equiptian symbols, and a god or goddess from diverse ancient religions on every card of the minor arcana. The Astrological meanings are often different from the classical correlations in Tarot, and I found this added a new understanding of the Tarot. The book is very easy to understand, and does not limit the necessary explanation to appreciate the cards and understand their meaning. The author(s) are excellent writers and are able to put an incredible amount of information in a short. concise, and impactful description of each card. The Major and Minor arcana are equally beautiful and sophisticated. For those who are familiar with Earth-centered religion and ritual, the cards will have a particular appeal. I do not have the most recent publication, rather the limited edition by the author, so can not comment on the quality of this printing, but am led to believe it is very similar. If you want the traditional Tarot with a new look, this is not the deck for you, however, if you want to expand and deepen your understanding of Tarot you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tarot cards for astologers..., January 5, 2000

Elemental Tarot is my favorite "new" tarot deck... The cards are colorful, thought-provoking and compelling. Since I bought the first edition (hardbound book in a sleeve) from the artist (with a signed card!), I have purchased 3 more sets, and am delighted to see this deck in the stores! As an astrologer, I was naturally drawn to the astrological/tarot interpretaions of the cards, but this deck would be equally useful and satisfying to someone as yet unfamiliar with tarot or astrology. If you have a penchant for collecting tarot decks, this is absolutely a MUST HAVE! The artist conveys the essence of the card with clarity and beauty, and, fortunately, without the gothic images and single-mindedness of many of the other decks on the market. I just love the deck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great, January 30, 2000

For those interested in learning about the tarot cards forget Rider Waite and all those cups, swords and pentacles. Switch to this. The cards are full of symbolism. Easier to understand and you get better readings from them. worked for me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Edition is Well Done, July 7, 2005
This review is from: The Elemental Tarot (Paperback)
A quick note for all looking at this deck - I picked up a copy of the reprint , and the typos mentioned in some aearlier reviews have all been fixed. Artwork seems clear and distinct. I've just gotten it, so can't say too much, but it seems like a very good system for working with Tarot. Symbols clearly explained, etc.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great deck, poor production, April 14, 2002

I have the original 1988 version of this deck and it is far superior. The new edition is on flimsier card stock, and the cellophane wrappers around the cards were stuck TO the cards due to an excess of glue. So I have 2 damaged cards with white spots where the color was removed with the wrappers. Also, the book has a front cover that is over twice as wide as the back cover....ostensibly to wrap around the cards and hold them. In practice, the cards won't stay there without 2 large rubberbands, and when you are trying to use the book you have a big piece of cardboard flapping around and getting in the way. All this is trivial, but the fact that at least 2 of the cards have typos is not. Several cards have had the astrological symbols change from the old deck. But the book still lists the old ones. So I don't know which is supposed to be correct. If you don't care about the astrological symbols, want to trim the front cover yourself and keep the cards in a bag....it's alovely deck with great art. Otherwise search for the 1988 printing, it is superior in every regard.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tarot for intelligent people., August 3, 2004
This review is from: The Elemental Tarot (Paperback)
These tarot cards are artistically beautiful, and I liked that they include astrological symbols. The approach to tarot is based on the ancient neo-Platonic understanding of a dual reality; everything is a symbol. This book is perfect for people who approach the tarot out of intellectual curiosity, with a genuine appreciation for the history of the occult.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect integration of tarot w/ planetary midpoints, February 12, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Elemental Tarot (Paperback)
I have the 1988 printing of this beautiful card and book set and love it dearly. One thing that I haven't seen in the reviews so far is any mention of the fact that the authors used a specialized branch of astrology called Cosmobiology, as an underlying structure to create this deck with. It's a perfect match since the system contains exactly 78 midpoint combinations. I just wanted to point this out for the benefit of anyone who might like to find books to help supplement the companion guide for additional card meanings, and understanding of the system itself that this deck is built upon. One book that I love using and can recommend is: Midpoints: Unleashing the Power of the Planets by Michael Munkasey. I think it's a great fit with the cards, but may be difficult to find since out of print. Ebertins own work: The Combination of Stellar Influences is good too, but with fewer keywords, ideas and meanings than Munkasey's. Perhaps someone familiar with the system can recommend even better or more in depth books than these.

5.0 out of 5 stars elemental people, August 23, 2009
This review is from: The Elemental Tarot (Paperback)
this is one of our favorite decks...
dear diviners,
... although we don't tend to use it for general readings, we do find it very effective when asking anything about people, personalities, the feelings or atmosphere of a situation, romance, etc. Also, anything dealing with the elementals in our magic. It is quite a unique deck in its way, while still based on the traditional tarot system. We love it.
For the sake of this review, we drew a card from the deck about this system of tarot and got: Shaman (Hermit in most tarot decks), having to do with "willpower and enlightenment". If you feel drawn to this deck, it can prove to be a valuable tool for you.
