excellent book for really teaching algebra,

This book really understands what it means to teach algebra to college students, so that they understand both how to approach algebraic problems and the theory behind it too. Problem sets are extremely thoughtful. I would certainly get a copy to examine and it's very likely you'll adopt this book as your classroom text.
