5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Textbook
I had to take Statistics as part of my degree cirriculum. On top of that, I was taking this class distance learning style; no classroom teacher, no nothing. So I was really depending on this book to explain the concepts and formulas in an easy way that I could understand. Luckily, the book did just that.

3.0 out of 5 stars Used Books are Incomplete
Buyers beware of purchasing used books. Classes generally use this text with Course Compass' MyMathLab, and you need a code to access the site. New books come with the code, but if you purchase a used book, the code might be already used. The code I purchased was $57.00. The code is more important than the textbook, so buy used books with caution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Textbook, March 18, 2008
This review is from: Elementary Statistics With Multimedia Study Guide (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
I had to take Statistics as part of my degree cirriculum. On top of that, I was taking this class distance learning style; no classroom teacher, no nothing. So I was really depending on this book to explain the concepts and formulas in an easy way that I could understand. Luckily, the book did just that.

It is VERY well written and I believe anyone could learn Stats just by using this book, as I did. It also comes with a bunch of CDs that contain study guides, answer sheets, and software programs that makes Stats a snap.

If you take a Stats class, or just want to learn Stats on your own, this is the book to get!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great price, but be sure you are getting what you need, October 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Elementary Statistics With Multimedia Study Guide (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
This was a LOT cheaper through Amazon than at my school's bookstore, but I had to buy an access code separately through the MyMathLab site.

This isn't clear when you buy, but if Lab access is required by your college, you will not get the code you need unless you buy at the school bookstore. Fortunately, you can buy the book through Amazon -- for about $50 cheaper than at my school -- and then only pay $25 for the access code on line.

Just be sure you know what you need. Not all classes that come with My--Lab internet segments require that you buy a code, but you can always buy one later.

By the way, MyMathLab is amazing. It's making this Statistics class a piece of cake!

3.0 out of 5 stars Overly-long text dependent on technology, May 4, 2009
This review is from: Elementary Statistics With Multimedia Study Guide (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
Elementary Statistics with Multimedia Study Guide is just like any other textbook. The new edition is hardly different from the previous, save for a few pictures and different figures in the word problems. The only justification for purchasing the 10th is so the publisher can make more money selling new books.

More importantly, the Triolla's text is far longer than it needs to be. A solid Elementary Statistics text should be no more than 300 pages. Instead, we have this 900-page behemoth loaded with more variations of formulas that will not be used for 99% of statistics students. In my class we went up to Chapter 10, many will not make it even there. There are four additional chapters each with supplemental material concerning the use of technology. This adds to the weight and price of the book, needlessly. While there are some problems that cannot be done accurately without Microsoft Excel or a graphing calculator, these are mainly toward the final fourth of the text, which most classes will never get to anyway.

There are plenty of supplemental guides that can be used as stand-alone texts to much greater effect in Elm. Statistics. I do not doubt Triolla's mastery or passion for the subject, but he has fallen victim to demands in the college publishing industry for fatter books with software packages and jazzy websites that go along. None of this is required for mastery of the subject. It's just a way to make more money off struggling students. If you must buy this, I recommend purchasing used or an older, less 'weighty' version.

1.0 out of 5 stars DONT BUY THIS BOOK THROUGH AMAZON, March 8, 2009
This review is from: Elementary Statistics With Multimedia Study Guide (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
For my course, a "My Math Lab" access card is required, which most math classes now require with the textbooks. So, buying this book at school would have included the "My Math Lab" access card, but I found the book for about $10 cheaper on Amazon so I bought it but the my math lab wasn't included. So I had to spend another $60 for the access card itself! SUCKS!

4.0 out of 5 stars statistics, September 19, 2009
The book came in perfect conditionbut I was disappointed that it was a binder with the pages and not the textbook. Perhaps I missed that info? But I don't think so. It came quickly and was correct -just not a textbook.

5.0 out of 5 stars I hate stats but whatevs i got what i needed to learn it, September 8, 2009
Title says it all. Not a fun class but this book made it work for me with its simple step-by-step explanations. If need be told, I didn't need to go to lecture because of how reliable this book was. (But I did go anyway of course.. ahem..) Its sample problems all seemed to have little morals written into them from those that ask you to calculate the correlation between model weight and height to those that ask you to assess the claim that heavy marijuana use is detrimental to memorization skills.

4.0 out of 5 stars Elementary Stats, October 21, 2010

It has the formulas I need and so it is okay, but I still find Statistics to be difficult to understand, and rather a royal pain.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware NOT hardcover, March 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Elementary Statistics With Multimedia Study Guide (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
This text book was NOT a hard cover text as indicated in the description so please ask before you buy. There appear to be two IBSNs associated with this text. Mine was a "loose leaf" type for a three-ring binder. Also it was listed as "New with new CDs" but has obviously been used and one of (the important one)the CDs is missing. I spent half an hour getting all the pages in the correct order. I paid top-dollar for the access code and it isn't there. What are the odds I can get my money back when we bought this through a third party?

4.0 out of 5 stars Anticipation, June 29, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am excited to use this book in our home school because it was recommended to me by a colleague of a friend who teaches Stats at a community college. I hear it is one of the most easily understood texts available on this topic and am hopeful that it turns out to be as such. One word of caution though: the MyMathLab/MyStatLab Student Access Kit only offers PARTIAL access if you are using the textbook independent of a school with instructor because the instructor has to set up an account for his/her class. Additionally, the acccess is good for one year.
