More About the Author

Mario F. Triola is a Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Dutchess Community College, where he has taught statistics for over 30 years. In addition to this text, Marty is the author of Elementary Statistics, Elementary Statistics Using Excel, Essentials of Statistics, and he is a co-author of Biostatistics for the Biological and Health Sciences, Statistical Reasoning for Everyday Life and Business Statistics. He has written several manuals and workbooks for technology supporting statistics education. Outside of the classroom, Marty has been a speaker at many conferences and colleges. His consulting work includes the design of casino slot machines and fishing rods, and he has worked with attorneys in determining probabilities in paternity lawsuits, identifying salary inequities based on gender, analyzing disputed election results, analyzing medical data, and analyzing medical school surveys. Marty has testified as an expert witness in New York State Supreme Court. The Text and Academic Authors Association has awarded Mario F. Triola a "Texty" for Excellence for his work on Elementary Statistics.

At first glance the book appears wordy and heavy on the technical stuff. However, if you take the time to read it you'll figure out that everything is explained in great detail, making stats a breeze.

There's plenty of exercises to bulk up the stats skills, and TI calculator owners will rejoice at the integration. There's also a CD for your computer (Mac or Windows) that contains some additional TI-83 programs and a few for the computer.

From what I understand Mario Triola has been writing stats books forever and is the authority in that business. Being someone who will be new to the field of math education very soon I support this book 100%.

I had to teach myself statistics the first time around and this book deserves sole credit for my passing grade. Furthermore, I was able to use this book to teach my classmates and everyone passed the course, a first with that professor. I used the book as tutor at more than one school, as well. Highly recommended!

Elementary Statistics with StatDisk is a very well laid out text making the introduction to new concepts easy. The text assists with Excel, TI-83 family of caluculators and gives comprehensive tips for using StatDisk. Z tables are included with the text on heavy paper stock.
