Biography

Earth, Wind & Fire were a 70's funk band from Chicago, best known for their disco floor-fillers “September” and “Boogie Wonderland”.

Earth, Wind & Fire were led by drummer and songwriter Maurice White. Working as a collective around his central control, they released several albums of tight horn-led funk in the early 70s with limited commercial success. Their big breakthrough came in 1975 when they… Read more in Amazon's Earth Wind & Fire Store

5.0 out of 5 stars "After The Love Is Gone" and a lot more., August 3, 2000
By
J. Highsmith (Mitchellville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Elements of Love: The Ballads (Audio CD)
I originally purchased this CD for the song, "After The Love Is Gone". This is one of my favorite songs of all time, but I hadn't started my old school collection yet. I was familiar with a few EWF songs, but I didn't know the exact titles. The CD, starts off with a powerful inspirational track, "Open Our Eyes" comparable to a later released classic by EWF called "That's The Way Of The World", that's not on this CD. It just gets better as you hear "Keep Your Head To The Sky" and "Devotion". EWF has a lot of classic CDs but if you're just a fan of their slow songs, then this is the CD for you. You have "After The Love Is Gone", "Can't Hide Love" and an over eight minute live version of "Reasons". Those songs alone, are worth the price of the CD alone and even more. I recommend this CD to anyone that likes slow jams from the 70s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellence., April 11, 2005
This review is from: Elements of Love: The Ballads (Audio CD)
This is a product you'll enjoy from track 1 to the finish. The remastering has really put the icing on the cake. You will feel as if the Boys are doing Devotion or Be Ever Wonderful right in your living room. Phillip Bailey falsettoes are all over the tracks, Maurice White does his best neo-spiritualist, non denomination deacon, and McKay/Dunn/Verdine on rhythm instuments set this whole enterprise just right. Even Nasciemento's afro-Brasilian Rhyme Interlude is given a fresh hearing here. You won't find That's the Way (yow!) of the World, but you are gonna hear All About Love and an equally impressive Imagination here.(I really don't understand why folks prefer Reasons to Imagination, but they both are heard here.) With the summer season coming up, you know you're gonna need some great ol' school grooves to listen to on those lazy evenings reserved for deprogramming and chillin'. This is a perfect CD for doing just that.
