". . . not only tells you the answers you'll need - it will help you ask the right questions, before you buy submission software or services." -- iBizResources.com, July 2000

From the Author

Thank you for your interest in this book! The Elements of Web Site Promotion is designed to provide you with the know-how required to publish information on the Internet, or your company’s intranet, in a way that programmatic indexers (search engines) can properly index and therefore your viewers can find. The core of this book explains the importance of understanding how a Search Engine will view your page when building a web document. Knowing your target audience is core to any writing plan- when publishing on the web, authors have two audiences, their readers and the search engines. This book will introduce these concepts to you in simple, easy to follow sections. The Elements are timeless. They are all that is available to machines for indexing and they are the core of your site/page on the web. In this book, I present the basic elements of a web document and how to prepare it for search engine indexing. You will get plain, straight forward insight into:

-What the main elements of a web document are

-How to structure your information for proper indexing

-Avoiding questionable tactics that may help for a short period, in limited areas, but in the long run will hurt your presence on the Internet

-Additional elements of Promotion and traffic building A Web Developer will build many pages designed for viewers. It is my hope that from reading this book, publishers of information on intranets and the Internet will consider metadata elements as important as visual perception when building their sites. To implement these principles cost nothing and the benefits will be easily noticed. I hope that this book will not only help you to gain insight into how search engines and traffic building techniques work on-line, but will also save you frustrating and costly mistakes. If you are looking for a reference guide to the basic elements of web site promotion, then this book is for you! Sincerely, Rob Yonaitis

4.0 out of 5 stars My thoughts from a Promotion Aspect, August 27, 2000

This review is from: The Elements of Promotion (Paperback)
The book offers many good insights about promoting a website. However, Like the other review said, not being able to find the site by searching in a search engine is natual.

As someone who has been into and doing web site promotion for almost 5 years 16 hours a day, There is much more involved with getting listed in a search engine than just submitting. There are also many other factors and media outlets that can generate more than enough traffic as well.

I am still undecided on how I like the book. Even with my 4+ years of experiance. I can get my clients listed usually in the top 10 position but I can't write a book about it simply because what I know is just the tips and tricks that work for me. I would never claim to be an expert and even the most highest paid promotion guru's to me are not experts. Search engines are not like riding a bike, Just cause you learn it once, It won't be the same the next time.

Unless the major search engines are sending you an email containing what is needed to get listed, Your going to have a rough time and no book is going to help. You have to learn it on your own like every other Url Submission Service on the web.
