After that the iron did not get hot enough to melt the solder properly.
Drew Justus
This is not a bad kit for beginners like myself, it is 25watts and the solder sucker works pretty good.
Jason Carnes
I like that the kit comes with everything needed to get started soldering.

I've never soldered in my life. Actually, I take that back... I did try once with my dad's soldering kit (was a big gun) and I tried to mod my friend's PS2 back over a decade ago. I almost destroyed it because the tip of the soldering gun was too big to handle the delicate/tiny parts on the PS2. That was the last time I ever picked up a soldering gun/pen until this past week.

Fast forward to present day, I found myself needing to test my soldering skills once again. In this particular case, my wife's rear AC stopped working in her car. Googling around for the problem, a lot of search results came down to a rear AC blower transistor assembly failing that is notorious for her make/model/year of her car. The part itself cost $90 + labor at the dealership but the information I found said you could replace it for as little as 75 cents. The transistor assembly actually contains a small thermal cutoff resistor that is the part that fails in the assembly. By getting a replacement part (75 cents) and thermal paste, you can solder the new piece back onto the assembly to fix the AC problem. Long story short, I used this soldering tool kit and now my wife's AC successfully works again.

I'm no electrical engineer and I didn't need anything fancy (because I doubt I'll need to solder again anytime soon). I purchased this kit because it was the only kit on Amazon that had not only a soldering pen, but a soldering wick, pump, soldering wire, and a stand all for a good price ($12.15 as of 7/25/2012). As a beginner, it was everything I anticipated needing.

All of the items you see in the kit came in this crummy plastic shell with a paper sticker on it. It wasn't professional at all and because of that, I was worried if the kit I bought for $12 would be any good.

I got this here on Amazon because I thought I got a good value for what I paid. I think I did actually. It comes with a solder pump, de-solder wick, 30w soldering iron, some solder, and a soldering iron stand. I will review each piece seperately.

-Soldering Iron is very comfortable with the grip and it works perfectly. It got dirty pretty fast but I think it's normal and you should have a sponge or something nearby to clean it so often of the iron part won't heat effectively.
-Soldering Stand works pretty well. Could be a little better, but what do you expect from a little metal piece.
-Solder itself is made of like 90 percent Tin and no lead and it works great!
-Soldering Pump works as good as others say. It's not perfect but it does work. Just have to take a couple passes with it. It was the first time I used one so I might not have done it right.
-De-Soldering Wick I couldn't get to work at all. I watched videos on how to do it, but it still wouldn't absorb. I think this is just a really cheap product.

So after having all the pieces, I would say this kit is very much worth it. It is great for the beginner solder who doesn't know anything other than reading and watching videos. I was actually going to get the starter kit with a project, but this kit is very much worth it. The soldering iron doesn't look like the red one, it is blue and very cool looking. Check out my photo.

This is not a bad kit for beginners like myself, it is 25watts and the solder sucker works pretty good. I am unsure how to use the solder wick. This set is weel worth the price at $13 I will just have to go and find some flux to help the solder flow better to desolder. I would reccomend:)

The tip never got hot enough to actually melt the 0.032" solder I was using. Luckily the sides of the element were plenty hot so I was able to still complete my project.

There are quite a few people who have problems with this soldering tool kit, and most of them are talking about how this doesn't get that hot.

However, everyone should be reminded that this is a beginner kit, and for the price, they shouldn't expect something too strong. If you want a strong iron, purchasing a soldering station would be the smarter choice.

I purchased this to fix the electronics in my guitar, and I have absolutely no problems. It actually works amazingly well.

First of all, we plugged this in 20 minutes before we needed it, to give it ample time to warm up. It wasn't warm, even after that, but we figured, what the hell? Try it anyway. Yeah... it had other plans. It snapped! As in the handle snapped away from the rest of the unit. It wasn't safe to use. We ended up borrowing a neighbor's soldering tool instead. Higher wattage, and he paid about the same price at Radio Shack for his, only his was 10 years old. Ours was a lower power and snapped after the first use. The only bright side out of this? I can say Amazon's customer service is really nice! My recommendation? Pass on this soldering tool!!! Unless you're looking for a sure-fire way to be dealing with Amazon customer service yourself real soon.

Nice kit.Too bad solder didn't even last a whole day before the internals stop working. Not to mention it barely heated up.

I purchased this to remove some small capacitors from a circuit board. However, it would not melt the existing solder not matter how long I waited for it to heat up.
