This is one of several slide sets I purchased for my 8 year old niece. We've had a blast with it. Having multiple samples per slide is a nice feature & provides enough variety that she hasn't gotten bored with the selection, or finished it off and discarded after a few minutes.

The other reviews about this being "just okay" are pretty accurate. However, an additional issue to consider is that there are 3 objects per slide, equally spaced across the slide. Depending on how far your slide frame/adjuster goes from side to side, you may end up having to not use it and instead put the slides in vertically (vs. the more "standard" horizontally on the base) in order to center the viewing circle under the viewing scope area. While this works okay, it doesn't allow find movement of the slide using the controls, nor does it secure the slide to prevent it moving out of place if having multiple viewers look at the object being studied.

So overall, kind of boring things to look at and due to spacing of 3 objects per slide, your slide frame may not adjust far enough side to side to view the outer objects w/o modifying your slide placement.

This is cute little set of slides showing a variety of
things from fungi, drinks, plastics, grasshopper parts,
natural fibers etc. The microfilm showing a letter or number
was especially interesting to my grandchildren. This is a
basic starter set to help interest children in microscopy and
as such is worthwhile.

The idea was not bad - having "theme slides" with three specimens on a single slide, such as microfiche, grasshopper parts, vitamin crystals, etc... Not very well executed, though. Some of the specimens were apparently mishandled before being put into the sealed slide (e.g. grasshopper wing in our slide was crushed to small pieces). Other slides have very thick specimens that are hard to observe in kid microscopes due to depth-of-field limitations. Maybe they would look better in a professional microscope - but I doubt that.

I cannot believe how worthless these are. Most of the "specimens" are indistinguishable powders or indistinguishable brown blobs of...something. I have experience with and access to several microscopes, so this is not an issue of poor viewing equipment. The "grasshopper leg" is a roundish pile of debris, there are tiny fragments of a fish and a snake scale (too tiny for either the source or the patterns to be identifiable). One slide, labeled "Drinks," has samples of cola (a brown stain), coffee (a brown blob with no resemblance to plant material or anything else) and tea (a leaf fragment that looks used). This is by far the worst purchase i have ever made on Amazon.

Cheaply made, overpriced and nothing more than a 99 cent store toy with a good web description. I didn't expect much and I was still let down. Samples were brittle, broken and no fun for my kids to look at.

These are really durable and have great views with the microscope. They were a great purchase for my 8 year old for her first microscope.

Some of the slides are "good". Others are difficult to see. My son has a one hundred dollar microscope, so you think it would be sufficient to view the slides. We weren't very happy overall with the purchase.
