5.0 out of 5 stars A Refreshing Awakening, January 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Elephant Country (Audio CD)
This symphony of spirit screams!! This CD grabbed me and my friends with integrity from the start. The next thing I knew I was comforted and willingly danced throughout a holographic musical performance. Real listeners are respected and paid with high quality, dynamic twists and artistic expression that exceeds any of todays expectations. These songs comfort and tangle at the same time. Compassion, Truth, and Strength through Softness await you. I envy your first listen. There is no predicting. I gave in, opened my heart and surrendered my ears to be directed and was gracefully pleased to have done so. Have your cuppa ready and sit between your speakers, this is an adventure! Take my advice, save the shipping and handling fees later by buying two or three copies now...

5.0 out of 5 stars "A must have...", July 28, 2001

I own a lot of cds. I have five favorites that never stray far from my cd player and "Elephant Country" is one of them! John Andre Herrmann's "Elephant Country" is a must have for any serious music critic. The depth of lyrical quality, the richness of the instruments and the production is flawless. The songs are haunting to say the least. I have owned John's cd for over a year and i never get tired of listening to his heart felt songs. The melodies resonate and stay with me long after the music has stopped playing.I highly recommend this rare gem in the sea of average that we are bombarded with on commercial radio! My other four favorites, just to give you an idea, are: Dave Mathews, Pearl Jam, the Beatles and Van Morrison. Get a hold of John's "Elephant Country" you will not be dissapointed!

This is a superlative effort put forth by Mr. Herrman. I listen to this album over and over. I am so enamored with his work that "Marrach Rong" is going to be my wedding song. If that isn't an endorsement I don't know what is!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, January 21, 1999

This album leaves me wanting more! Re:Joyce is a classic song waiting to be discovered! (If any Hollywood film producers are reading this review and subsequently use this song in one of their films, any chance of a "spotters fee"?). The more I listen to it all, the more I get out of it. The overtones of blues, folk, jazz (and the one ingredient which prevails throughout the music which cannot be categorised) makes this album totally unique.

5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend Elephant Country!, January 20, 1999

The more I listen, the more I hear. This music touches my soul. John's voice is an incredible instrument. After listening to him sing, so many other pop vocalists sound flat. The intricacies and overlays of guitar work, percussion and keyboard are a rich tapestry of sensual delight for the ear. The many layers of Clay's percussion texture the music with tribal pleasure. Without formal musical training, John has composed detailed pieces, weaving together the beauty of the instruments and allowing the joyful expression of the musicians. The magical connection between the musicians seems to enable each to stretch without constraint. I do hope these sounds reach many souls via recording, but especially via live performance as John's stage presence is so captivating. At performance end, you are addicted, waiting impatiently for the next concert.

John Herrmann and Clay Green make for fine listening moments. It's an album covering a range of music genre. Good lyrics and hopefully the first of many.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome melodies and great percussion on each song, January 4, 1999

There are so many different sounds on this CD - from the beautiful heartfelt melodies and lyrics of "Marrach Rong" to the upbeat folksie "Sun Rose". This album will grow on you. I find myself humming the tunes days after I've listened to it. Herrmann is quite a song writer. There's a song in here for everyone. Listen to it with regular speakers first, then with headphones - you'll be amazed at the sounds and instruments you didn't pick up the first time!

5.0 out of 5 stars This cd only gets better the more you listen to it!, December 21, 1998

A Montana made product with a worldly perspective of lyrics and music. Mr. Herrmann (John) has a terrific voice; the vocals, acoustic guitar and percussion serve as the main treat, with harmonica, base, keyboards, strings, didgeredoo, thunderstorms, car wrecks etc. accompanying. John has his own style, kind of like the ballads from a reformed rock and roll pirate. aaaargh matey! This will be the first of many!
