Be the Change,

Wow, how inspiring!
I really dislike hip-hip, rap, etc. Not just the sound of it, but the horribly negative messages it often puts out. So when I encountered this album and saw folks like Krishna Das, Jai Uttal, and Bhagavan Das on it I had to pause. When I read the titles and saw the words I was astonished. And when I put the CD on my player and listened I was moved, very very moved. This is a brilliant album, a work of love and inspiration, bhakti yoga at its finest. It moves the body, it moves the soul and mind into great rhythm and harmony. I can't help but wonder what our world would be like if this was playing out of every boom box in the land. What a great thing. Be the change that you want to see in the world, just like Gandhi. Wow. Peace out.

I bought this on a whim and it's absolutely awesome. My kids love it and are learning while dancing and singing along. I just read an article on the artist in LA Yoga Magazine. I hope he releases another CD soon. We all can't stop listening to this one. Namaste.

I was looking for meditative music when I stumbled into MC Yogis' magical world of kirtan hiphop. This is the most fun telling of religious and inspiring stories I have ever heard. I recommend it to all my friends. Shanti.

Been digging this CD all week... Fave track is (currently) "Om Namah Shivayah" -
If you're thinking about getting this CD, click over to the mp3 department here at amazon and get an mp3 of "Om Namah Shivayah" or "Elephant Power" and spins those a few times to get an idea of what this joint is about... you'll probably enjoy them and end up with the whole CD. I fell asleep last night with this CD spinning in the player & then as I hiked the sandy streets to work this morning I had Bhagavan Das chanting in my head and after a about a mile of that I found myself chanting aloud as I walked...with a big ol' smile on my face... this music is infectious stuff! Your Hindu children will love it... "Jai Ganesha!" Om Namah Shivayah. Namaste.

MC Yogi's elephant Power is an incredible work of the heart! It conveys the essence of some of the most important eastern scriptures in hip hop version. Anyone who has followed eastern spirituality, meditation, or is on the path to inner knowledge will LOVE this music. It will make you laugh, move and open your heart! He is talented and obviously has a gift and message to convey. Are you open to it? Go for it!

One of my favorites!,

This is an new genre of yogini/kirtan music that has quickly become one of my constantly played favorites. The blend of hip hop and, at times, trance with stories about Hindu gods & goddesses was informative and just great music. My favorites include Krishna Love, Bhakti Boombox, Mahatma's Message and Be the Change (brought to mind 2Pac's Changes, in a parallel world) and the bonus track (Kirshna Dub Remix) rocks! I only wish MC Yogi had more CDS available, because now I'm hooked!! BTW, for different, but equally compelling tunes (more dance/trance), check out Girish and Wah.

I am not Hindu, nor did I look for inspirational music. I heard one of the songs from this album (Om Namah Shivaya) [...] and was surprised at how much I liked it. I am not a big fan of Rap or Hip Hop and I have very little familiarity with hindu music. I wanted to hear the rest of the album and after listening to just a few of the tracks decided to purchase. I am not disappointed. This is an excellent album offering positive imagery through good lyrics and beautiful music. for me it is quite educational as well as it offers insight into Hindu myths. Well Done MC Yogi! I am looking forward to finding out what else your talent can conjure.

I confess I utterly refused to let my kids listen to rap. I couldn't stand even being next to a car on the street with the vibs. Seemed so negative. Well I bought this based on Kriahna Das being in on it and the reviews - last night found me dancing, lost in a bakti fest with my 13 and 10 year olds breakdancing and pumping the harmonium, thunping the cello (wait till my 20+ year olds hear about this!). All of us were dancing, laughing and this is how it ought to be. Wow! Come on MC Yogi & friends can you line up another one like this? JAI!

I purchased this cd about 6 months ago. We (daughters and I) have had SO much fun with it. It is Energizing, Positive, Entertaining - and full of Spirit. - also educational!
As per some of the other reviews, my favorite song picks on the cd keep changing as I listen. I commute with it, and it makes me smile; I painted the whole interior of our house listening to it, and danced on the ladder - balanced on one leg, brush in hand. It is so rare to find music with a deep beat AND meaning. (Usually beats like this are found in thug rap.) Many of the songs are softer however, and just plain nice to listen to, or sing along with. Krishna Das adds the needed depth and bass tones, and Jai Uttal rounds it all out. It is one of my favorite finds in the last decade. Happy Listening! |
