Priceless Advice!,
By
This review is from: Eleven Things Mama Should've Told You About Men (Paperback)
Hard-hitting and to the point! If you are single, looking for your "Mr. Right", this is a quick must-read book. Wilson lays out in Chapter One, the types of men who should be avoided. Most women will definitely recognize some of the traits provided in past or even current boyfriends. Wilson goes on to advise women how to "take a look at the many normal, genuine, and decent brothers out there. They come from all walks of life, and at least one of them is right for you." She points out several very valid mistakes women make during the dating process, the number one mistake - seeking a mate to obtain a certain type of lifestyle. Why not get your own education and a good job yourself? A really important chapter (and the longest) is titled "Check Him Out." So many sistahs get burned down the road because they suffer temporary blindness during the first stages of a relationship. Wilson emphasizes getting to know the family and several other important checklist points. I like how Wilson leaves no woman out! There is something for single moms as well as married women! This is no doubt a great book to share with a sister, friend, daughter ... so many details about relationships have not been told by mama!

I wish someone had given me this book a long time ago. The author talks about things my own mother did try to tell me but for various reasons I didn't listen. This isn't just about men and marriage it's about loving yourself and looking out for yourself too. It's a serious book presented in a funny way and I think it's perfect for the young college age sister.

You can tell that the author loves her people because she tells the truth in a non-compromising manner. She is a modern day Harriet Tubman, lighting the way to freedom of the mind and heart.

Pragmatic Recommendations for the 21st-century Woman,
By
This review is from: Eleven Things Mama Should've Told You About Men (Paperback)
Over the years, I have seen many, many books on how to get find the perfect mate or how to get a husband. However, Wilson's book, 11 Things Mama Should've Told You About Men, gives better practical advice on dating, finding, and keeping Mr. Right. My favorite of the eleven tips is Chapter Six: Check Him Out. Many of us dive into relationships without ever thinking our potential man's environment and the difference between love and romance. Wilson defines, in the best possible manner, the difference between romance and love: "Romance will not get up in the middle of the night to tend a baby. It (romance) won't work two jobs to put the kids in private school, and it sure as hell won't go out into the rain or snow to buy chicken soup and aspirin when you get the flu." "Check Him Out" also gives practical, sound advice on how women should pay attention to a man's friends, how to evaluate his relationships with his family and how his family interacts with each other, his religious beliefs (nothing can kill a marriage faster, says Wilson), previous marriages and relationships with other offspring, and how he handles money. This is a wonderful book, geared toward women of every race and color, with pragmatic recommendations to help the 21st-century woman explore and find the love of a lifetime.

What men to avoid and which to treasure,

This review is from: Eleven Things Mama Should've Told You About Men (Paperback)
In these 80 pages Kimberley Wilson shows you the women how to get a husband and keep him happy. In between these pages you will find a wealth of information to help stroke a brothers ego and bring them back to the king status he deserves, so we can be treated as their queens and Pharoahs. The author also touches on airing our dirty laundry in the media, through books, CD's and the movies. Let's try not to glorify the negative and accentuate our positive.

The author keeps it short, simple and to the point. It doesn't have to take two hundred or more pages to get and keep a man and to build self-esteem.
