I agree with Ed that Eric Lewis is a singular talent. I was fortunate enough to see him perform three songs from this album last week after he thoughtfully helped to judge an American Idol-style show for talented D.C. public school kids competing for scholarships ([...]). It was a stunningly beautiful performance of incredibly inventive interpretations of these songs. Of course, Ed is right that this is not the jazz that rightfully earned Eric the Monk award. But an artist needs to have breathing room to experiment. I am sure he will continue to make inspired jazz recordings in addition to this work, and he has a long career ahead of him. In the meantime, let's let him have some fun. If it brings some kids to listen to a piano being played as they've never heard it played before, so much the better. Personally, I love this album.

i was lucky enough to see Elew play in Paris at the Renaissance Arch de Triomphe. Live - his performance is amazing! He is truly a multi-facted entertainer. After seeing him in person, I can truly appreciate all the heart and sould that goes into his music. This cd rocks, and takes my mind off everything! It's definetly not your "classic" jazz...and I persoanlly would not call ti jazz at all. It's jsut amazing piano rock with more heart than any other music I have every heard.
Elew is truly an artists.

I bought this album after seeing Elew on America's Got Talent and really enjoyed it. "Genius" is not too strong of a description.

Four out of five rather than five because a few of the pieces got a little repetitive.

I don't really feel that "rockjazz" describes the style very well. If you're looking for jazz you might be disappointed. I feel it's more a mix of modern classical with pop music melodies. Not much of a surprise since Elew's training is in classical piano.

For those of you that can learn to enjoy music without getting hung up on what its called, who else listens to it, or what people drink when listening to it then you may find as I did that Elew Rocks. Period. Elew is amazing and somehow manages to kick ass on a piano that makes me want to headbang. I would love to see what he could do with a heavy metal band behind him. Rock on Elew. You kick ass.

Discovered Elew on America's Got Talent, and was upset to find out that he dissappeard from the program. Did some research into him at that point, and found out he already has a recording, which is excellent. If you like piano, and modern music give it a try.
