Far below the best of Elfquest,
By A Customer
This review is from: Elfquest Reader's Collection #15: Forevergreen (Paperback)
Of course I bought this book, and anyone who's following the Elfquest series will do the same. However, it is one of the weaker volumes. Much of the art is terrible -- the characters are literally unrecognizable, all looking (and acting) like effete children. There are huge holes in the plot, and the story is shallow. I suspect that Forevergreen was written not by Wendy Pini but by someone who didn't really bother to research the universe in which the story is set.

Bitter disappointment,

I have read this book and agree with most of the other reviewers. As an avid elfquest fan, I was disappointed by the the art - it doesn't possess the quality of the Elfquest legacy. The art is substandard and embarrassing for Elfquest. The story, too, is mediocre. There is too much jumping around, holes in the plot, and departures from characters. The actions of the characters just seem out of sync with the other elfquest stories - did someone other than the Pinis write it? Of course I bought this since I am a fan and stupidly bought Phoenix, which is even worse than this one! EQ fans beware.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! If I could give it less than one star, I would! This is the most abyssmal book I have ever owned and I ashamed to have it sitting on my bookshelf. In the case of a power outtage, it is the first thing I will burn! If you love elfquest, then you will hate this...that Wendy and Richard even published it destroys my faith in their integrity and makes me very skeptical of future releases. This is the most hackneyed, untalented, uninspired, unbelieveable and nauseating book I have ever read! (and I've read a lot of stinkers) If you want EQ, read the Hidden Years graphic novel or Dreamtime...don't waste your time on this.

How much more hackneyed can Elfquest get?,

How the mighty have fallen. This series has become so bad, so blatantly money grubbing, so sloppy and insincere, I suggest you RUN, DO NOT WALK AWAY from this dog, with reproduction so bad it looks as if it could have been printed in mud. I am a former, devoted EQ fan. "Forevergreen" makes me a fan nevermore. Despite the Pini's garish self promotion and pleas to support them while they are working on their movie which they expect to make them zillionaires, they are doing it on the dollars of fans they expect to love them enough to buy this trash. There are many graphic novels out there from other companies, by creators who not only care about their work, they care about their fans. The Pinis are not among them. Don't give them your money. This is trash.

Ungodly . . .,

I remember reading these in full color and they weren't all that great then, but now this story has turned into a virtual eyesore. If you can actually get past the goof ball grinning faces and the faded ink look of the book, you will find that the story is mediocre at best. There are a few good moments, but as a whole, the story suffers greatly because the artist's work does not do well in black and white. Once again, I ask, what the hell happened to EQ? Barry Blair should not have been allowed to skew EQ in this fashion because it too closely resembles his dark elf series which, for the lack of a better word, is just bad.Be warned, reader. This is yet another sign of the slow and agonizing demise of EQ.

UGH!! Worst EQ series EVER,

I read this story in its original color comic book form (EQ New Blood issues 15-35). It is reprinted in black and white in the Reader's Collection volumes "Forevergreen," "Dream's End" and "Phoenix."
What a complete waste of time. It is truly awful, and I don't know how or why the Pinis saw fit to let Barry Blair (the artist and main writer of this series) ever do anything with Elfquest or approved these for print. The artwork was really bad, the story was blah, and the characterizations were horrible. STAY AWAY! And please, don't pay the $50-$150 current asking price for this out-of-print volume. Trust me, it's not worth it.

I know the great debate about whether it's Elfquest without Wendy doing the art. I can see both sides of the argument, but Wendy's artwork is one of the reasons I like this series. I'm not a comic book collector; I just like Elfquest. My main objection to some of the other art work is that the characters can be so distorted that I can't tell who's who. So that's why I was pleasantly surprised by Forevergreen. The artwork was okay. Not incredibly beautiful and breathtaking like Wendy's, but far above tolerable. I could tell who everybody was. And there was so much attention to detail. And of course, it wouldn't be Elfquest without the compelling story line, which this had. My only disappointment was that it didn't cover as much story-line as I hoped it would.

Good story, but the beginning parts and the illustrations could've used a little work.
