5.0 out of 5 stars Super fast, well built and beautiful March 12, 2012
Size Name:240 GB
I bought this drive so I could have fast access to my photo library when traveling with my MacBook Air.

I primarily use Lightroom and Capture One for photo editing; both of which are very demanding in terms of disk access. Keeping the library and images on the Elgato SSD has been a huge boost to overall performance. It makes editing photos on the road fast and enjoyable; night and day difference compared to trying to do it with a USB drive.

For those who like numbers - I'm seeing about 230MB/sec for copies to or from the Elgato SSD. It's rather shocking how fast even large files can be moved around with this little gem.

The all-metal case seems very rugged, and it looks nice too.

Highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost changed my life, but... June 19, 2012
Size Name:240 GB|Amazon Verified Purchase
For me this drive was a life-changer because I shoot dSLR video, transcode it to a fatter format, and edit. It's shocking how much faster this drive is than anything I've used before. I work off a MacBook Pro so I love that a Thunderbolt cable is long and stays in the port when things get jostled, like when my dog bumps it. The drive small and beautiful.

One annoyance is it gets...not quite hot, but startlingly warm. I try to set it where it can get some cooling. I've never seen an external drive get this warm, or even close. I am assuming it uses less power than the spinning drives I have, but I'm data-free and wonder since it gets so warm.

For the first two months I would have given the drive 5 stars despite how warm it gets, but lately I've been having trouble getting it to mount on my MacBook Pro. I plug it in and Finder never finds it. I have another Thunderbolt drive from Lacie that mounts every time and many USB and Firewire drives, and they all mount. Yesterday it did mount so I backed up everything and now it seems to be working normally, so I dunno.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fastest portable drive I've ever used! February 13, 2013
Size Name:240 GB|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love this drive-I am a digital and 4x5 film photographer and have been doing it for over 10 years. This drive I use as my primary 4x5 file drive for edits. Since 4x5 files are usually 500mb+ in my experience, working on a slow drive is frustrating. With this I can do all kinds of edits and not have any lag whatsoever. And saving is incredibly fast!!! I highly recommend this product to anyone in the creative industry that works with large files!!!
