Editorial Reviews

2011 album from the R&B love man. The singer's accolades include multi BET and American Music Awards nominations and a 2000 Soul Train Award win for Best R&B/Soul Male album. He was one of R&B's pre-eminent love men and untitled King of R&B during the '90s heyday of hip-hop soul. That he's still topping the charts 14 years and six studio albums later is a testament to his musical legacy.

Customer Reviews

This one was one of his weaker projects, but still better than a lot of stuff out.

I remember putting 100% Ginuwine as one of the best albums of my senior year in my high school memory book.

This is a great adult album and I highly recommend taking a listen to it and buying it!

In his fifteen year career, Ginuwine has been through quite an evolution. From his early days as a teen heartthrob, he morphed into making music from the perspective of an adult. For all his success and acheivements, he's also had his share of doubters, as well. If he wasn't being taken seriously for the perception as nothing more than a dancing pretty boy, he was also seen as one who would not have a lasting career if he were to break ties with his former producer Timbaland. While he has proven his critics wrong on both accounts over the years, one couldn't help but notice a gradual change in his music. It all started with the rather melancholy 2001 album "The Life", an album that was recorded shortly after the untimely deaths of both of his parents. He tried to relive his past glory on the follow-up "The Senior", but that album felt a little forced- and rather long-winded. His final album for Epic Records "Back II Da Basics" came and went with little fanfare, and he was written off in favor of the Trey Songz and Chris Browns of the world. He staged a comeback in 2009 with the successful- and criminally underrated "A Man's Thoughts", an album that showed his growth as a man as well as a performer.

In 2011, Ginuwine has returned with "Elgin", an album that picks up where the previous album left off. So much so, that the same producers appear on this album (Melvin "St. Nick" Coleman, Michael "Sleep" Naylor, and the album's executive producer Bryan-Michael Cox). The album starts off with the ballad "Heaven", which was penned by singer/songwriter Tank. The legendary songwriter Diane Warren contributes two power ballads "Break" and "How Does Your Heart Forget", although this isn't the first time he's performed a Warren song (See: "Superhuman" from "The Life").

Being a long time fan of Ginuwine, this CD definitely does not upset. There are many classic songs on there. His maturity keeps growing with each album, but he still makes great sounding music. This cd does not disappoint.

I'm pretty sure that majority of the reviewers for this album are older than I am, but from a younger person's perspective (21 years old) I have got to say that I love this entire album. I have always been a fan of Ginuwine, even back when `So Anxious' was out and I was too young to understand what he was talking about but I knew all of the words. I realize he may not be what's popular right now, but he has to be one of the most consistent artists of all time. Every album he has ever put out has been a solid project, and `Elgin' is no exception. The maturity on this album is refreshing to a person who is used to hearing songs about sex, clubbing, drinking, ass-shaking and poor attempts at "look at me: I'm the greatest; I'm revolutionary; I'm edgy; I'm an icon etc." `Elgin' is a perfect example of why Ginuwine is already a music icon; a testament to the fact that real music never goes out of style and why he still has such a strong following 15 years into his career. It's so rare to buy an album nowadays that you can turn on and just let play from start to finish without skipping tracks or getting sick of hearing the same beat play through four songs in a row. I love it! It's a perfect follow-up to `A Man's Thoughts,' the album that I thought couldn't be topped. Guess I was wrong.

I'm really proud of Ginuwine because he really has stood the test of time. He has really proven he still can do it minus Timbalands production. I was 15 when he first hit the scene and I've been a fan since then. Ginuwines music has been part of my teenage years on in to adulthood. I remember putting 100% Ginuwine as one of the best albums of my senior year in my high school memory book. I still own The Bachelor, 100% Ginuwine and The Life. After that I fell off with some of his music but still remained a fan. I never got around to buying The Senior, Back to the Basics or A Man's Thoughts. Instead I made my own personal mix of all three of those albums. I came real close to buying A Man's Thoughts but I just felt like there was something missing with it. Now to Elgin, this is what I was waiting for and what I was missing with A Man's Thoughts. This is a really great album. It has that real nice and smooth groove to it right out the gate. I'm feeling 12 out of the 14 tracks on this album. My favorites are; Heaven, Break, What Could Have Been, Drink of Choice, Why Were Fighting, Body, Batteries(original), How Does Your Heart Forget, Firt Time, Frozen, Busy and First Time(remix). The remix to First Time is off the chain. If you're like me and really not into some of these new cats like Chris Brown, Trey Songz or NeYo then you definitely should get the Same Ol' Gs new album.
