This model is a great alarm clock to use for either nostalgia, to use for a desk clock (like I do), or for a regular alarm clock. It has a lighted dial, and a snooze feature - both which are operated by pressing down on the handle of the clock. The pewter finish goes great with my black and gray decor on my computer desk, and would be great for any modern setting, while still looking like an old fashioned clock to boot!

It also has a loud alarm that would be good for people who need an alarm clock to wake them up, but not one that needs winding every day, as it takes one 'C' battery. The ends of the hands are also illuminated for night viewing when the lighted dial feature is not activated.

For the money, it is a great buy, and unlike the other poster, I've had my clock with the same battery in it for the past year, and it hasn't drained down yet!

I was a little nervous because another reviewer said this clock ran on a C battery and drained quickly, however when mine arrived, it just took 2 regular AA batteries. I have not had a problem with the batteries draining. The button to make it light up in the dark is on the bottom of the clock, so when its sitting on your nightstand you just push down on the top handle and it illuminates the clock face. I really like that it has the option of 'twin bell' or 'beeping' alarms. The clock looks great! Definitely am happy with my purchase; good value for the money.

What a major disappointment. I purchased this alarm clock because of the Elgin name. Apparently, this manufacturer's quality has taken a nose dive in the past few years. The clock, on the surface, looks quaint and retro and is made of some kind of very lighweight metal. The back of the clock is all plastic and barely held together. The good thing is that it keeps great time. THE BAD THING IS THAT IT STINKS AS AN ALARM CLOCK. Let's say you want to set the alarm for 7:30. Consider yourself lucky if it even goes off, which it sometimes doesn't. When the alarm does go off, it's rings approximately 15-20 minutes LATER than it's supposed to. So, if you want the alarm to go off at 7:30, you'd better set it for 7:10. If you need a reliable alarm clock, this "ain't" it. What a hot mess!

This item does not live up to the Elgin name. The clock looks great on the outside and worked for us for 3 days then the switch inside fell into the back of the clock. The inside is now in pieces and parts.

Nice Clock. Looks like sterling silver so shiny. Reminds me of the old fashioned wind up clock, without having to wind it up though. I definitely prefer the bell sound in the morning rather than the loud and annoying beep of a digital alarm clock. But it has the optional digital alarm sound if you prefer that to switch between. Only thing is I haven't figured out anyway to discern between am and pm settings, so once you set your alarm to go off, it more than likely will go off at the time morning and night(ex. 9:30 am and pm). Overall, I'm very pleased with this clock it looks really good it my bed room; very good design and craftsmanship.

This alarm is quite nice. A unique design compared to most that I see. A very good price. The face lights up when you press the snooze button, and it is quite loud.

It also has two settings as well, and is very easy to set the time, and alarm. It is easy to understand.

Doesn't come with batteries but that is no big deal.

I bought this because I needed a loud alarm clock. I think it is attractive in a nostalgic way and it is loud. I like the features. Unfortunately, after using if for 7 weeks, the alarm on/off switch pushed into the clock so that it wasn't usable. I took the clock apart and found a very flimsy mechanism inside for the off/on switch and an even flimsier mechanism for holding the switch in place inside the clock. I spent half an hour trying to fix it. Even though I succeeded in getting the parts back together in a way that appeared to be correct, the alarm and switch no longer work. I'm off to buy an alarm clock that hopefully was not manufactured in China.

Very strange for amazon... this order came in a box with hardly any decent packaging inside... when i took the clock out - in its own packaging I can hear everything rattle. The face of the clock is in fact very easy to read...but as with the other reviews the mechanisms are made even close to decent.

I tried two different sets of batteries to still get the flimsy weak bell ring. Expected it to be loud as in a few other reviews. I also tried the beep alarm -- come on... i dont think it could wake up anything.

Amazon seemed (as of last weekend) very very accomodating with handling my refund. Very surprised that Amazon would sell and package (like they did) an item like this. Hope its a rarity. In any case thank you Customer Service for your professionalism and courtesy give to me.

So far the clock seems to be built well. My wife is always knocking it off the night stand and nothing seems to affect it adversely.

I needed an alarm clock and didn't want to spend a bunch of money. The clock works just fine. The alarm has worked about 5 times since February; it is now April. The old saying "you get what you pay for" is true. It is now on its way to the Salvation Army as a donation. I gave it one star because the clock works.
