This is a very helpful book for beginning and seasoned speech therapists alike. It includes multiple ways to elicit a sound as well as therapy ideas. I have found this particularly helpful for a quick guide to help move me in the right direction. Its a great addition to my therapy materials library. :D

This material is very useful to the speech therapist in training as well as the experienced therapist working with children and adults. The authors have provided a clear and concise description of each sound and its production with elicitation techniques galore. This book is invaluable to the practicing speech therapist.

Review of Eliciting sounds,

I love the revision of this book. It is organized very well, and has a number of suggestions to help teach both very easy and the more difficult sounds to those with articulation challenges. Every SLP should own this book!

Okay, but not great,
This review is from: Eliciting Sounds: Techniques and Strategies for Clinicians (Spiral-bound)
Although a relatively decent compilation of techniques in one place, this book doesn't contain much in the way of little-known tips that might be new to you. Also, many of the suggestions are very vague, recommending you do something "in several different ways" but not telling you what those ways might be.

Practical and Helpful,
This review is from: Eliciting Sounds: Techniques and Strategies for Clinicians (Spiral-bound)
This book is exactly what I wanted. I work with lots of children with articulation/speech sound errors and I wanted more and effective tips with which to help them. Some of the classic techiques are given as well as some new and original ideas. I like the extra focus on /r/ and lateral lisps. Thank you!

Practical little book,

This is a very practical book for slp's working with articulation disorders. My only gripe is that the front and back cover are so soft that they are easily bent/ torn when traveling in a therapists bag or through use. Very useful guide though.

Not Usable For the Lay Person,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eliciting Sounds: Techniques and Strategies for Clinicians (Spiral-bound)
Too much of a technical journal book here for the lay person, who works with special education students, to make much use of. An SLP recommended it to me, so that I can learn how to teach the students that I work with, how to make the sounds that they are missing in their speech. As not all special ed students receive the speech training that they need, IEP or no IEP, others must be able to step in where SLP's are not able to tread.
If you are looking to educate yourself in this area, keep looking for another book that may, or may not, be available.

When it comes to ideas for treatment, eliciting sounds, and client/student progress in speech therapy, the more the merrier, I say. I am always looking for effective ways to get those I provide therapy for to accomplish the goals and objectives set for them, and this manual has some very useful tips. While it is smaller than I thought it would be, what's inside is concise and complete. And actually, the size makes it conducive to toting along with you to a therapy session (if need be). So far, it's proven to be a valuable resource, but it is a little pricey, in my opinion.
