Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

God can use you to change your world!

God is working, even when you don’t see results—and you can be a part of it. Learn how you can be used by God, despite your shortcomings, and find out how you can shine as a beacon of light—through your work, to your friends, in your family, and beyond—in this fascinating look at Elijah: A Man Like Us.

Elijah lived during an age of incredible spiritual decline. His people had turned from the one true God, and as one lone man, he had no reason to hope. Common sense called for surrender. Instead, God called him to a miracle.

Elijah was not of our time, but he could have been, for as Scripture reveals, “Elijah was a man just like us.” The word prophet often brings to mind the image of a great orator. But this simple, rural man had no particular skills, no special strengths. All he possessed was an unshakeable faith in the Lord: a faith that God would ultimately use to save an entire nation.

Elijah’s success was based on qualities that we can all acquire. Despite overwhelming circumstances, despite your most humbling weaknesses—God can use you to change your world!

We live in a world where everyday Satan is bound and determined to undermine who we are in Christ. Before reading this book, I held the Biblical heroes such as Elijah, Moses, Paul, Deborah, etc. on a pedestal but now I see them as only men and women who allowed themselves to be used by God. When Elijah had such an awesome victory on Mount Carmel, he was just a man who let it go to his head. Jezebel did not repent and still wanted Elijah dead. The depression that overtook Elijah spoke to me greatly. How can someone like Elijah be depressed? Because he and all those in the Bible are human just like you and me but they were willing when God called to be instruments surrendered to His work and will. So, keep the faith while you are still on this earth until He comes. To quote the author, "There is no situation too difficult. There is no fear that cannot be dispelled. There is no opponent that cannot be quelled. God is there with you in that place; you are on holy ground." I am comforted to be reminded once again that God is a Personal God desiring intimacy with me and you. You will definitely be blessed by this book!

The title says it. A man like us. He had his failings. But he went to God.
If you have failed at one time, have nearly given up or just plan quit, get this, read it, see what God is saying to you. Then get up and do it. This book will let you see that Elijah was great before God. But it will show you that you can be if you desire it.

This is my 2nd book by David Roper. I have to say it has exceeded my expectations. I have been searching for a book that would help me decipher certain words and phrases detailed in the bible. David Roper does a wonderful job of explaining and providing a visual description of Elijah's trials and tribulations.

A am ashamed to admit I have a horrible prayer life, but every time I pick up this book it leaves me with an urgency to drop to my knees and just dwell with Him, praise Him, thank Him and pour out my love and gratitude for Him.

David Roper is a true "wordsmith." The way he writes his books only adds to the pleasure and encouragement of reading them. I read through this copy cover-to-cover at one sitting (for the second time after a hiatus of several years) before I gave it to my grown-up son. Check out his ministry and personal background via his website (you can find it by Googling his name). He will inspire you to understand the Lord more deeply and authentically, even if you have known Him for a long time.
