I used to be a serious pack-rat and held onto everything I ever owned. One of the biggest fears we cluttered people have is getting rid of things we think maybe some day we'll need. This book really helped me get rid of things like newspapers (I could find online) and clothes (that I didn't wear) and stuff like that. It deals with the whole philosophy of de-cluttering your life, as well as the practical tips. One rule I totally live by now: Put like-things together. If you do that you'll find you don't need 7 balls of string, or two copies of "Thriller." Happy chucking

I do have a clutter problem, but I found it very difficult to translate this book to my own lifestyle. For one thing, I have no children - it's my own personal clutter that's the problem - but this book assumes that there are children. And how on earth do I apply the following quotation from the book to my own life?

"Coaster, ashtrays, and matches could be in one drawer. TV trays, folding chairs and card table naturally go together. Liquor, glasses, ice bucket, tongs, and corkscrew should be in one cabinet."

The only thing in the above list that I even own is a corkscrew, and I keep it in a drawer, not a cabinet.

Strangely, this book has been re-released by Barnes & Noble under the title "Clutter Control." I'm not sure how they managed that, seeing as there's another book out there with the same title, written by Jeff Campbell. In my opinion, Campbell's book is infinitely more useful.
