I could not wait to hear this recital after seeing the pre-publicity material from EMI/Virgin. And what a delight. We have been truly blessed with this amazing recital of Mozart favourites, sung with absolute beauty by Garanca. This CD will be played endlessly. A standout track is 'Ch'io mi scordi di te'. Listen to it and see what I mean. Music from heaven!

A great developing mezzo,

I first heard Elina Garanca, the Latvian mezzo soprano, on her Ondine label recording "Arie Favorite." The program was varied with arias by Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Massenet, and four by Mozart. Her young developing voice and techniques already showed promise. With the Virgin Classics release of "Mozart Opera & Concert Arias," she has matured wonderfully and established herself as a major artist. After listening to this recording, you should savor the later recordings in the concert discs in which she shares solos and duets with Anna Netrebko, Ramon Vargas, et al. Finally, her latest Deutsche Grammophone disc shows further evidence of the glories of her vioce as she expands her repertoire.
