This Elinchrom reflector is designed specifically to be used with photographic umbrellas and when used in this application is absolutely outstanding. The wide 90-degree beam angle the reflector produces means the full umbrella canopy can be illuminated evenly at short canopy-to-flashtube distances. The standard 8.25" reflector throws too narrow a beam angle to fully illuminate an umbrella regardless of how far down the shaft the flash is positioned. In practical terms, this means the light source (the umbrella canopy)is as large as it can be (since it's fully illuminated) and can be brought closer to the subject (because the flashtube-to-canopy distance is so short).

Build quality is excellent and the price is more than fair. One additional note: It has been reported that the Elinchrom 7" grid reflector also makes an effective umbrella reflector even though its beam angle is considerably narrower. The 7" has the advantage of being able to accept front-mounted grids so, for some, it might be a good alternative. Just be aware the 7" is not perforated for an umbrella shaft and on some Elinchrom-compatible lights (Calumet Genesis for example) it may not be possible to mount an umbrella with the 7" reflector in place (the 6.25" works fine).

I Buy this piece because the original one was damaged in a car crashed, the product this in conditions excelents and its more versatil than including in the original kit. As much in diffusion as in expansion of flash it covers the best phantom than no other. I recommend that if you have the pair of Flash you moust be buy this model and you replace, in truth you can see the difference.

Like all Elinchrom products, its a bit pricey for something so simple. But it works fine. No complaints. If it was cheaper, I'd give it 5 stars.

does it job very well. the reason for going for an umbrella system is for portability, if you want good control i will stick with soft boxes.
