2.0 out of 5 stars Junk screen
Ok had this for a couple weeks now when I noticed that the screen was hanging at a angle. I took the screen off the wall and took one of the end caps off, the side that dosnt have the wind mech on it. I was surprised to find that the female part that holds the spindle was broken before then glued. Very cheap. I am not going to go through the bull of sending this thing...

I've had this screen installed for a few days now, I've unravelled and contracted it several times and it seems to be fluid and sturdy. (I was weary after reading several reviews on a similar screen that said it was frail and broke quickly) But so far it seems to work fine. Installation was a royal pain, as the studs in my ceiling are almost impossible to find or non-existent. Nevertheless, I did some weight tests and I think it should definitely be secure.

As "Movie Buff" from Nashville states, yes... the screen bar is actually a slight off-white, but I think it is for the better, as I have eggshell walls and when rolled back up (or when rolled out) it blends into the wall... with dim lights, the most noticeable aspect is the black frame around the screen which works great with bleed over the edges from your projector. The color produced seems great, although I have little to compare it to and of course it also depends on the integrity of your projector.

There is very slight "ripple" effect from the screen being tightened to the pulldown bar... only most noticeable when there is scrolling horizontal text in the movie - which doesn't happen that often - and even then, it is not anything to cry about. (UPDATE) this either seemed to correct itself, or I no longer notice it as it has been a few years and I never think about this issue anymore. The edges do still bow inwards slightly, but only upon the first few minutes of unraveling. If you open it, leave it for a few, then watch your film - no problem.

So... as of now, I am giving this 4 stars. Should it fail sometime in the coming months I will update my review, but as of now I have nothing too negative to say about this screen.

2012 UPDATE: The screen is still installed perfectly, still unrolls and collapses perfectly, no signs of wear on the screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars This screen is everything that we need, August 26, 2007

We bought a Sanyo PLV-Z5 projector, and have it set up in our living room. I wanted a pull down screen so our living room did not have to be a full time theater. I read a lot about screens, and in general, much more high end screens were recommended. Maybe the movie connoisseur with a more depicting eye would not be pleased with this screen, but we have been thrilled. Content has been very bright and vivid, and contrast better than any television we have ever had. We just use it for watching movies, and do not have any high-def sources, but I doubt it would make any difference.

The only downside is that this screen does have a bit of a wave in it. After it has been up for a while, we have to tension the bottom corners to pull it flat. This is only noticeable in scenes with a lot of horizontal motion across the screen, and when we add tension, we do not notice it.

Overall, if one does not want a fixed screen, I think this is a great screen, and I could not find a better price anywhere.

One other note, my sister also purchased this screen and has been equally happy with it.

Good price for well made screen. This is just a white bright surface no fancy lenses, not greyish, so use it in a partly darkened room, but you can view it from sides as well as front, so best for a long narrow room with viewers spread out all along the screen instead of in front of it a long ways away, like in an auditorium. It fits my basement recreation room perfectly makes one wall a huge screen that can be seen from anywhere in the partly darkened room.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great screen at 1/3 the price!, December 6, 2005
By
I have owned this screen since July and I must say it has performed perfectly. We keep ours outside on the the patio year round as we watch movies by the pool, and have had no problem with it. The screen material is durable and displays a very sharp image from an entry level projector. I looked at the Dalite screens at the same size, but I wasnt willing to spend $1200-1500 just for a brand name. Elite screens has got a lifetime customer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Home Theatre Screen, January 18, 2009

I installed this screen in my home theater. It is being used with a Bravia AW10 project. The theater has no windows so it it can be as dark as I want it to be. The picture quality is terrific and the mechanical parts of this pull-down screen have not had any issues.

I chose this screen over a fixed-frame screen because I have kids and needed the ability to hide the screen.

It mounted easily with two drywall anchors and screws; the box should include these items, although mine did not.

One note: The screen initially had a bad smell, like some sort of glue or other chemical, but its was fine after 3 days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Screen, Great Price, December 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We've been very pleased with this screen and actually bought another for the office. It is huge. I mean big. Mounting is very easy but you will need molly bolts or any drywall screw anchor. Make SURE, you measure the screw hole to purchase the right screws. You WILL need a second person to help you hang this. Build quality is good and it was delivered with no damage. We use this every day, yes every day - up, then down. It has held up over a year. We debated over the electric or the manual. If you want to be cool, go electric but I didn't want the headaches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Use the Warranty If You Get a Broken Screen, October 23, 2008
I purchased this screen in August (even after I read the horrible reviews) but did not get the chance to hang it until mid September. As soon as I removed from the box I knew immediately that the tension rod was worthless. The screen fell straight to the floor and would not retract. By this time Amazon's 30 day return period had just passed and they wouldn't even exchange it (I guess they knew it was a piece of junk too)so the Amazon rep told me to use the 1 yr warranty to replace it. THAT WAS THE BEST ADVICE EVER. Elite's customer service was great!!!! I received a replacement screen in about 10 days. Once hung, the screen retracts smoothly with no special tricks to get it up...so in a nut shell buy the screen at the next to nothing cost that Amazon sells it for and if you get a bad screen use the warranty. Evidently Amazon purchased a bad lot of screens at wholesale ....Elite Screen has the real deal and stands by their product so you will not receive a less than superior replacement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great screen for low price, August 8, 2011

This is a great projector screen for very little money. I use it in a dedicated media room with an Epson 8350. The walls and ceiling are painted bright white, and still I'm able to get very nice image quality. Due to the walls being white, the blacks on the screen are a bit washed out, but I don't believe this is because of the screen itself. It took me about 30 minutes to install all the hardware and attach the screen, single-handed. The screen only comes with a bracket to mount directly on the wall, and I had to get an L-bracket from my local hardware store to create some separation between the screen and the wall to accommodate for a window ledge behind the screen. The screen is thick and doesn't let any light through - I have a window behind the screen and have a separate roller blind blocking the light but you wouldn't probably even need that at night. The mechanical construction is solid, and the screen is heavy enough so that it does not swing even though I have an A/C vent blowing air almost directly at the screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great inexpensive projector screen!, August 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This projector screen has worked out great. I bought this one because it was a 1:1 scale so I could still watch my full screen movies and even project my computer screen onto to it. It has worked out great! The only negative thing about it, it's not electric. You have to pull it down yourself.
