5.0 out of 5 stars *Good Strings*
I've been playing fingerstyle acoustic blues/folk for about seven years now, I play for several hours a day, and these are my favorite strings. Their sound is mellower but still bright- meaning they don't have that tin sound common to fresh strings, and they hold up longer. They don't break often (and I really snap my strings). 3.0 out of 5 stars LAST FOREVER, SOUND IS OKAY
I have been on the journey for the perfect strings for my acoustic guitar. I tried these out for a couple of months. These strings sound good. They last forever. It took me a while to figure out that the guitar sounded like nanoweb strings. I know it sounds weird but when i put on any other brand the guitar took on whole different tones and the wood vibrated in my chest...

Also, because of the coating your fingertips don't stick to the strings- it's so much nicer that I consistently notice when I pick up someone else's guitar that other types of strings grab at your fingers- not preferable. They are not much more expensive than other brands if you buy them online. I use the nanoweb custom lights (want to be somewhat gentle with my old guitar). On the down side, you may get spoiled with them....

THE BEST - there's a good reason Elixirs are held as top strings - doesn't matter if it's polyweb, nanoweb, whatever - the sound, the fee - every weight I tried from Elixir held up to its name, bought Elixir for years, and will loyally keep buying them.

I have been playing with these strings every day for a month and they still sound like the day I put them on. They are definitely worth the extra money.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest things to happen to acoustic guitar in years, March 11, 2011

I first discovered Elixir strings when I purchased my Taylor and I've been a convert ever since. They cost roughly two or three times as much as uncoated strings but are well worth it. If your hands perspire when you play, this product will keep your strings sounding new and fresh. They sound great on my Martin too !

4.0 out of 5 stars Durable but very bright, November 29, 2010

These strings have been on my guitar for a month or so and sound like new, so the claim that their coating extends their life is probably true. The trouble (for me) is that I don't like their sound, which is extremely bright and metallic. Others may like that, but I will go back to GHS phosphor bronze or silk-and-bronze.

I purchased a set of these before, went to install them, and the low-E string was a dud (I've never had that happen before). They QUICKLY send me a mailer to return them for free, and QUICKLY processed a refund, and then I bought another set.
Great strings, by the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound that lasts a long time and reduces labor., June 27, 2009

I use the Elixir light and custom light strings on all of my acoustic electric guitars (Taylor, Martin, Seagull, Rogue). They have a mellow rich sound which unlike other strings can last a year or more. They are expensive but really cut down on the labor of going out and buying conventional strings and them changing them. I shop around for the lowest price plus shipping on the Internet. You can get around the shipping charges by combining their purchase with a larger order of music equipment so as to get them shipped essentially for free. Try them. They are addictive.

I used to scoff at coated strings. I could not beleive that a string encased in a plastic coating could possibly sound good, and that the coating would not significaly dampen the string and absorb all the high overtones. Boy was I wrong. These sound great. Just as good as uncoated to my ear. More importantly they stay sounding good MUCH longer. The full coating is stable and keeps dirt and oil out of the strings, which is the main thing that kills regular strings. If you are lazy about changing strings, this is a no brainer. This is a true breakthrough. I've not tried the more heavily coated strings that preceded the nanowebs. But the coating on these nanowebs is so fine that you really have to look carefully to even see they are coated. An added benefit is the coating reduces string screach a bit. They eventually wear out too. But you will get months and months of play on strings that basically sound new the the entire time. It is my understanding that Elixer has a patent on fully polymer coated strings. If you look at their competitors you will see that they are not simply plastic coated strings. There is always some difference to avoid the patent such as only partially coating string, coating the strings in metal or something else that doesn't work as well. So Elixor is my choice until the patent expires.
