I read the other review, but decided to buy the book anyway. Big mistake. I thought there would be typed transcripts for each letter. There wasn't anything of the sort. Many of the letters are in a foreign language, old English, or so badly handwritten that they are impossible to read or understand. I am an english grad and it was a little over my head to the point that suffering through the book isn't worth the time.

I had originally bought this book for my mom as a Christmas present, but upon receiving it I changed my mind. I think that I expected more from this book than I should have. In my opinion, the book is strictly just the letters. There is no real history provided, or maybe not enough for what I was hoping for, and the letters aren't really that interesting. I decided to keep the book for myself because I knew my mom wouldn't really enjoy it, but I think it'll make a good coffee table book. This book may be exactly what someone else is looking for, but for me, it was just o.k.
