ELLA is an integrated hardware design toolset, developed by the UK Ministry of Defence. It is a powerful and easy-to-use HDL: any circuit described in ELLA can be realized in hardware. Written by the team who developed ELLA, this work gives a description of the syntax and semantics of the ELLA hardware description language. It is a complete guide to the use of ELLA in the design of VLSI circuits for synthesis and verification, writing consistent compilers and system simulation. Emphasis is placed on how to use ELLA, through examples and case studies, and key points are summarized at the end of each chapter. There are appendices on portability, hints for compiler writers and simulator commands.
