This cd is really two cd's on one. One Christmas and one gospel album. All the songs and sound quality are absolutely moving. Her gospel songs just bring chills and tears to your eyes.

Run down the entire list of cuts. This is a remake of two albums from about 1956. She sings nearly all of them with very little embellishment.
She has the power and self-confidence to let the traditional stand on its own. Perhaps 'I shall not be moved' has a little hint of the turmoil in race relations that was about to explode across the country soon after these were recorded.

I first bought this album, in vinyl, about 30 years ago when I was in college and was blown away. The purity and sincerity of her voice completely renews carols that have grown stale and flat with time and too much exposure. The vinyl didn't include the gospel songs, a whole extra album's worth, so I consider them a bonus. An essential part of any collection of Christmas music.
