A great collection of Ella Fitzgerald songs. "Take the 'A' Train" is one of the best renditions ever of this song. Everything you've heard in other Ella Fitzgerald live perfomances are in this recording. Improvising, scat, Ella's version of a popular song of the time etc. Notes include lyrics to all songs as sung during the performance. My personal favorite Ella Fitzgerald album. I have searched for a long time to find this in CD format. Worth the price.

This CD is fantastic and well worth the money. The scatting is out of this world on 'Take the A train' and 'Airmail Special'which is probably one of the fastest scats I have heard.
There is a unusual latin like version of 'Blue Moon'in which Ella makes up the words to alert the audience that she's not afraid to sing a song from the hit parade.
This CD is just as entertaining as The Berlin concert the year before and I can't understand why it's not so well known and only in print in Japan

I grew up listening to this album. I permanently "borrowed" the vinyl from my mother because I couldn't live without it. When it finally came out in CD I was able to replace it for her. This is Ella at her best - in concert, vibrant, sassy , the ultimate in jazz vocals. More than worth the money.

This is a fabulous compilation of songs - Ella sounds superb and the the re-mastering is great. Thanks, Verve - for bringing this back. Some of Ella's biggest hits and after you listen, you'll know why.
I absolutely love this album (ok, I know it's a cd, so sue me) and if you love Ella Fitzgerald and great jazz standards, you'll love this, too.

After a couple of attempts at Verve the album has finally come back to us in CD form. All previous reviews on this album are true. Doesn't matter how many other live Ella's you have on Verve or Pablo this one is a must. I thought Ella In Hamburg was my favorite but when Ella scats and sings the fact that she almost bit her tongue floors me. There will never be another like her. Craig

I origanally bought this album as a l.p. in the 70's... it is one of her best live albums... [and that's saying a lot!] it complements the newly issued "Ella At the Cresendo" [4-c.d. set]... Nine tracks on this c.d. are not on the 4 c.d. set... It was overlooked when it came out about a year ago... ONE OF HER BEST!

I grew up listening to this Ella recording on vinyl. It remains my personal favorite, lots of great scat and exellent renditions of some of Ella's best songs.
