We started out with a Baby Bjorn after my son was born that a relative gave us. It was fine for the first few months but, once he hit 17 lbs the shoulder pain was just out of control. We did a bunch of research online and found lots of positive reviews for the Ellaroo Mei Hip. I ordered it and have truly never looked back. It is so incredibly comfortable, even now when he is far heavier. (He is nearly a year old now.) All of the weight is down on my hip and I regularly walk the 3 mile path around the lake by my house with him on my hip with very little effort and no pain. It also packs so small & light that it is really easy to keep in the diaper bag and pull out whenever we get somewhere in the car. A great product!

I read the negative review for the mei hip and had to respond. I'm absolutely sure that the mom from Oregon who left that review must have been using her carrier wrong. My baby Sarah loves riding in the Mei Hip and I never feel like she isn't secure. As for her comment about riding too low, I've never had that problem either. There is a really easy buckle at the waist that you can tighten down to your waist size. Even as I was shrinking down after the pregnancy, I never felt like I couldn't make it fit comfortably for both of us. This carrier is a great choice.

I purchased this product once my son became too heavy for the front carrier. He was still within the weight restrictions for the front carrier, but there was too much of a strain on my back. I still wanted to be able to carry him around and yet have some use of my hands. The first time I used this hip carrier, he loved it and so did I. It was very comfortable and I no longer felt any strain on my back. I would definitely recommend this product - especially for anyone with a bigger baby like mine.
