Product Description

America's indisputable Queen of Comedy, Ellen DeGeneres, returns for another high-spirited season of ELLEN, the Emmy Award®-winning ABC sitcom that skyrocketed her into the pop-culture stratosphere! ELLEN stars DeGeneres as Los Angeles bookstore owner Ellen Morgan, a good-humored bachelorette whose loose-lipped outbursts often land her in outrageous situations. With her best friends Adam (Arye Gross), Paige (Joely Fisher), and wacky co-worker Joe (David Anthony Higgins) along for the ride, Ellen flirts with her dentist under the spell of laughing gas, masquerades as an exercise trainer, becomes a contestant on American Gladiators, and dates a whole parade of Mr. Wrongs! Featuring all 24 episodes from its critically acclaimed second season, ELLEN: THE COMPLETE SEASON TWO boasts show-stopping cameos by Bob Saget, Harry Shearer, Mary-Kate Olsen, Seinfeld's Patrick Warburton, Sister Act's Kathy Najimy, and the voice of Connie Stevens! DVD Features: Commentary with Joely Fisher and David Anthony Higgins on the episodes "Mrs. Koger" and "The Trainer"; Cast Biographies; Interactive Menus; Scene Selection

Ellen: The Complete Season Two is a little less populous than season 1 (there's a net loss of one cast member). But in every important respect the 1990s ABC sitcom starring Ellen DeGeneres as bookstore owner and adorable neurotic Ellen Morgan carries on the show's familiar charm and intelligence. Fans will surely notice the unmentioned departure of Ellen's buddies Holly (Holly Fulger) and Anita (Maggie Wheeler), as well as the out-of-nowhere appearance of new best gal pal Paige (Joely Fisher). But Arye Gross provides strong continuity as returning second banana and platonic friend Adam, the underachieving photographer who moves out of Ellen's apartment in season 2's eighth episode ("Adam's Birthday"), yet never seems to be gone afterward.

For the most part, season 2's scripts, like season 1's, are both urbane (in the Friends mold) and classic-TV silly (in the I Love Lucy tradition). The season premiere, "The Dentist," has some great moments for the series' highlight reel when Ellen's attraction to a dentist gets out of hand after inhaling laughing gas. "So Funny" finds Ellen jealous over Adam's friend Theresa's quick wit, while "Mrs. Koger" has a timeless plot in which our heroine chews out a crusty and unpleasant old neighbor, only to discover the latter died moments afterward. (Ellen's penchant for babbling is particularly funny during a post-mortem conversation with a cop.) The Lucy influence is especially strong in "Ballet Class" (Ellen gets a little too ambitious) and "The Spa" (a massage turns brutally slapstick). Despite these strong storylines, at least half of every episode is concerned with light subplots, such as Adam's near-flirtatious efforts to reach out to Ellen's employee Joe (David Anthony Higgins) when he realizes he has no guy friends. No matter what's going on, DeGeneres finds a way to endear herself every scene. --Tom Keogh

My whole family loves this series.

And Season 2 is MUCH BETTER than Season 1... they have better characters and it seems that Ellen is different and funnier in a way.

This is the only modern sitcom that makes me laugh out loud.

'Ellen' has been my favourite sitcom since season one. Took me a while to get over the loss of Holly & Anita from season one and I recall actually hating the Paige character for a while which now just seems shocking! I have seen these episodes many many times but they still make me laugh out loud. Ms Degeneres' comic timing is astonishingly perfect but its the supporting characters that pull this show together as everybody gets funny lines and the fun these guys must of had making the show oozes off the screen. I love it. I dont think it will ever be topped.

This season, I think, is funnier than season 1 because it seems like Ellen Degeneres writes more of her own lines of comedey into the script. Some of the funniest episodes are "The Dentist", "So Funny", "Ballet Class", "The Toast", and finally "The Spa." If your looking for something funny and short to watch, I would recommened getting Season 1 and then getting Season 2.

If you are an Ellen DeGeneres fan like me, then you're happy that this show is finally making its way to dvd. While it started out slowly (and under a different name, "These Friends of Mine"), in the second season it really picked up steam. There are some classic episodes here, including many scenes of expertly performed physical comedy that hadn't been seen on TV since Lucy's heyday.

I didn't notice any serious picture flaws (like the other reviewer), but I did notice the change in volume from one episode to the next. One would think that that would be relatively easy to fix when mastering the episodes for dvd. Hopefully the following seasons will be handled a bit bitter.

I'm also disappointed by the relative lack of extras. It seems as if Ellen wants to have nothing to do with these dvd releases as she has so far not done commentary tracks for either the first or second season. Hopefully in some future packages she will provide some commentary tracks or interviews regarding her experience working on the show.

I think Ellen Degeneres is one of the best comedians and actresses around, she has so much talent. I still can't believe what they did to her just because she is gay! It shouldn't matter what her sexual orientation is, the fact is, she makes people laugh and her show was wholesome and proves that she is one class act. I bought season one and two on DVD and can only hope that A&E comes out with the next three seasons. I want to have the entire series on DVD. Thanks Ellen, you're awesome!!

I loved Ellen's sitcom and was very disappointed it was canceled, well, but obvious reasons, which I felt, wasn't fair... but thats a whole different subject...

ANYWHO...

If you are an ELLEN fan, you must get this DVD set. When I watch it on my TV, I have and EXCELLENT picture and not the grainyness that people have been reporting. I have watched the entire DVD collection a number of times because there isn't a bad episode at all. And Season 2 is MUCH BETTER than Season 1... they have better characters and it seems that Ellen is different and funnier in a way.

I wasn't too impressed with the commentaries. I mean, they were OK, but I was hoping there would be more commentaries from Ellen herself and perhaps a reel of bloopers... just like they did after one of the episodes with Ellen and Clea Lewis. It was very funny to watch that... so I encourage the makers of the DVD to please, include some bloopers and perhaps more commentaries from the different stars, including Ellen. I don't know, perhaps she wants nothing to do with it after what they did to her, but oh well... Season 2 still ROCKS!

Now get to work and get Season 3 our. I can't wait!!!!

This show is one of the best from the mid 90's. I have the first season also, but it is nothing compared to the second season. THis has some really funny episodes. The ballet one, the one where Ellen and her parents commit to honesty in their relationship, the one with the dentist (Dentist goes "Oh Ellen, your from the old Bayou"....Ellen's reply on laughing gas "May I bayou a drink....") hilarious. The only complaint I have now, as well as then is that the supporting cast, IMHO sucked. Adam was NOT funny...Joe the coffee guy is really not likable at all, he borders on annyoing..and Paige.. well she is alright no complaints there. Audrey and Ellen's parents were much better and are always good for a laugh or two..most of the time more than that. When Ellen got rid of Adam and brought on Jeremy Piven as her cousin..thats when the show got even better. Can I say I cannot wait for season 3? And then the Coming Out episode? Cannot wait! Bring It ON!

My whole family loves this series. It is so much better than most of the stuff that is on TV today. We've watched Season 1 and Season 2 a couple of times now. Now we are waiting for Season 3. But I have not heard anything about this coming out on DVD. I sure hope it does.
