Nice boots but smokey gassy odor from interior fabric.

Like the boots, hate the smell. These boots reek of a strong burnt oil that's mixed with a cigarette ashtray. I could smell the foul odor before even opening the shipping box and these boots were also packed inside a plastic bag. That's how strong the odor was. Made in China so who knows what chemicals these were soaked in. Its too close to Christmas to Return For Refund so I washed them in the washer with extra detergent but that didn't get rid of the smell. I then dried and sprayed them with odor repellant then left them outside for an hour. They are now probably good enough to wear indoors for my 15 minute Santa appearance but any longer than that and I'm afraid the children will start backing away. Ellie Shoes needs to work on their Quality Control for overseas manufacturing. These boots have me very concerned about health issues.
Taking off these boots after Christmas when I discovered that the inside sole had a cardboard material for the foot padding. I removed it as it may have been responsible for about 70% of that terrible polyurethane odor and I replaced it with a Dr Scholls shoe foot pad. Now the boots smell better and are also a lot more comfortable. So in summary, if you buy these boots then quickly remove and throw away the cardboard soles, wash the boots with laundry detergent and maybe a little bleach, dry, then insert fresh new fitted foam inserts and everything should be good to go.
