This review is from: Elliott Carter: Quintets and Voices (DVD)
Mode Records is giving to us a series of recordings of contemporary music of the highest level. This new DVD is another example of this.

We have here chamber works, some of them with voice, in outstanding performances. I knew some of the works played by the Arditti Quartet and Ursula Oppens in them recording for Montaigne Disques; this is so good like that, but even better recorded, but with the very interesting couple of Frank Scheffer's documentary about Carter, which I watched in ARTE TV some months ago. A really work of art by one of the best music documentary directors in the world, who shows Carter as a person, as the human being he is in his nowadays living, his relation with art and music, the playing of the musicians, the performers opinions on Carter's music, his context in NY, etc. A wonderful document to know better this very important man in the XXth Century American music and culture.

The sound is really wonderful.

The interviews are very, very interesting, and the booklet notes really very good.

A DVD for not to be missed. A jewel about modern music.
