5.0 out of 5 stars Great Miniseries!, April 30, 2006

Movie Nut (New York USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ellis Island [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I remember seeing this miniseries when it was first shown in the 80's. An epic miniseries than spans many years in the lives of an assorted cast of characters that include Faye Dunaway, Richard Burton, Ann Jillian and many others that went on to become familar faces on TV and film. As most miniseries from this era, there is adultery, murder and sex. If you get a chance to see this don't be discouraged by the length, sit back and enjoy. I only wish this were available on DVD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ellis Island, June 10, 2009
This review is from: Ellis Island [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have searched for the "Ellis Island" video for years. I am so pleased to finally receive it. The quality is good and the service outstanding. It is just as good as I remember from 25 years ago. Thank you!

Ellis Island is one of those rare productions that are almost as good as the book. Telling the story of immigrants at the turn of the last century it is nicely filmed with excellent performances from Faye Dunaway, Peter Riegert, Alice Krige, and Judi Bowker. Dunaway looks superb in her Edwardian finery. Good production values. Also notable for being Richard Burton's last film appearance. If there is any fault to be found it is the slight story variance from the book concerning the brief estrangement (in the series) of Alice Krige's character from her husband played by Michael Byrne. It would be nice to see this on dvd. I highly recommend both the mini-series and the original book written by Fred Mustard Stewart.
