5.0 out of 5 stars Charming, gentle stories

3.0 out of 5 stars good reading
I enjoyed the books very much but was under the impression that they would be individual books instead of three in one. Mailing came quickly.

I really enjoy the Elm Creek Quilts books, having just discovered them. They are easy to read and I find myself becoming very interested in the lives of the characters. My only complaint is that many of the situations they find themselves in aren't very believable....but that's fiction for ya! I love the description of the quilts and the detail that goes into telling about making them. I love that there is a website to see the quilts from the stories. These are just fun stories and I'm glad to have bought the book!

I borrowed the 2nd and 3rd book in the series from the library. I've been unable to find the first book, so am glad I found that Amazon has Chiaverini's novels. The women in the books become family. The two I've read so far are books to read in a big comfy chair in front of a crakling fire on a cold winter day, although I read mine while sitting under sun-filtering pine trees while camping. Now I know what to buy my quilting-crazy sister-in-law for Christmas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Three wonderful novels!, April 2, 2007
This review is from: An Elm Creek Quilts Sampler: The First Three Novels in the Popular Series (Elm Creek Quilters Novels) (Hardcover)
"An Elm Creek Sampler" is a wonderful introduction to the world of Elm Creek quilts seeing as it is the three first novels together in one book! In "The Quilter's Apprentice" we are introduced to the women who are central figures for the series - the wonderful and knowledgeble master quilter Sylvia Compson and the ressourseful young woman Sarah McClure, and how they start the transformation of Elm Creek Manor from a run down sales item to the idea of a quilt retreat. We are also introduced to the Tangled Web Quilters - who in "Round Robin" become the staff of Elm Creek quils. In Round Robin we follow their everyday struggles, their ups and downs - this is my favorite among this wonderful series. In the last book in the sampler: " Cross Country Quilters" the quilt retreat is really up and running, and here we follow a group of quilters who meet at the manor and how they together find the strength to conquer their problems in life and how they form a wonderful friendship! Read them and you'll love them!!!

Great book, love it when an author draws you in within just a few pages, Jennifer Chiaverini certainly knows how to do this. Enjoyed all 721 pages, did without sleep to keep reading, just had to know what happened next. Now reading the next 3 in the series, keep up the good writing J.C.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carrying friends in your pocket, January 9, 2007
This review is from: An Elm Creek Quilts Sampler: The First Three Novels in the Popular Series (Elm Creek Quilters Novels) (Hardcover)
Before my purchase, I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. Though I don't know anything about quilting, the description of the book seemed like it might hold my interest while I was on vacation. I started reading it right away snd I felt like I really got to know the characters. The setting happened to be near where I was vacationing, so it seemed a very appropriate book to read. I almost felt like I had these women as friends with me during vacation (I even developed a little interest in quilts). After vacation, I promptly looked for the next in the series.

I bought this book for my wife. She says - 'I love the first 3 novels together though it is a big heavy book. As a quilter, I feel the characters are part of my quilting group and I would love to spend a week at quilt camp with them. Now I will have to read each novel in turn and, indeed, want to make each quilt as their story unfolds. I love the fact that there are quilt pattern books to go with the novels - I want both.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Great purchase, March 2, 2008
This review is from: An Elm Creek Quilts Sampler: The First Three Novels in the Popular Series (Elm Creek Quilters Novels) (Hardcover)
Years ago I purchased the first three books of the Elm Creek Quilt collection. I loved them so much I passed them off to friends and family. As I've purchased all of the others through Amazon I felt like reading the first one again. I didn't know it was available in a three set volume. I immediately ordered it and it came within a week (much faster than I thought) and in absolutely new condition. Sorry, Barnes and Nobel but I've learned years ago that the best prices, service, and condition come from Amazon.
