4.0 out of 5 stars Rather enjoyable, September 2, 2001

I shall rate each individual cartoon for you so that you know what you're purchasing.

Each Dawn I Crow: A
Very Hitchcock-like cartoon with Elmer Fudd in a supporting role.

Pests for Guests: A
Elmer deals with those two overly polite gophers.

Upswept Hare: A-
A Bugs and Elmer cartoon. It's not their greatset but it is still enjoyable.

Don't Axe Me: C-
Elmer Fudd's wife is a nice touch. However, the slow 50's sitcom pace ruins what could have been a funny cartoon. By the way, this cartoon is sort of Elmer Fudd's swansong. The man who did his voice died after this was made.

Robot Rabbit: A
A very good Bugs vs Elmer to end this collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny Fudd, July 29, 2005

This review is from: Elmer Fudd's School of Hard Knocks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
It always surprises me about how much I really enjoy a lot about animated goofiness from the Looney Tunes era. That has arguable been the case with Warner Brothers for several years, and their group of second bananas. I really most of the time find them funnier than the main acts like Bugs and Daffy. Elmer Fudd is arguably one of those kinds of characters. Yet, he has always been under the shadows as the middle-man between Bugs & Daffy from their ups and downs of Duck & Rabbit seasons. However, he has had very few chances to shine on his own in that attempt, and that has came through on his video collection.

The 1993 Elmer Fudd: School Of Hard Knocks, is a compilation of five cartoons featuring his royal fuddness, going through his motions after Bugs & Daffy, as well as others. The collection does a little better job of highlighting Elmer away from Bugs & Daffy with cartoons like Pests For Guests: the only time he goes against The Goofy Gophers (Mac & Tosh), Each Dawn I Crow: In which a rooster suspects Elmer the farmer is trying to kill him, and a few toons against Bugs & Daffy like Don't Axe Me, Upswept Hare, and Robot Rabbit. The cartoons are very funny, but it is only the second collection of Elmer's humor in the world.

Although this collection is fairly good, is really isn't as definitive as the 1986 Elmer Fudd's Comedy Capers from Warner Brothers Golden Jubilee 24 Karat Collection. Nevertheless, Elmer Fudd's School Of Hard Knocks is still a fan pleaser for anybody who loves the classic cartoons he has been in with the Looney Tunes for years. This is not really a must buy, but it is a fan pleaser nevertheless.
