1) Elmers "Ultimate High Performance" is a Polyurethane glue and it's as good as Gorilla (As far as I can tell) but cheaper. also used the PL brand glue and can't tell any notable difference between the three. 3.0 out of 5 stars Elmer's Ultimate Glue
Purchased a 16oz bottle, it dries fairly quick and bonds great. My suggestion is to buy the smallest bottle because, no matter how you try to prevent it, the glue dries in the bottle and you end up with a dried up block inside the bottle. At the price of this glue, it very hard to just throw away more then 75% of the purchase. Being a carpenter and cabinet maker I've used...

1) Elmers "Ultimate High Performance" is a Polyurethane glue and it's as good as Gorilla (As far as I can tell) but cheaper. also used the PL brand glue and can't tell any notable difference between the three. Have not used Sumo and from what I understand it sets up faster and as a result apparently has a much more limited shelf life (this is generally not a good thing - see item #2)

2) This has a limited shelf life and you probably don't need as much as you think. PU glue foams up and you use a LOT less than other types of glue. 4 oz should be more than enough for most people, 8 oz is a BIG bottle - I can't even imagine buying the 16 oz bottle. PU Glues suck moisture out of the air so unless you plan on using it up within a year or two, a LOT is going to go to waste. Don't ask me how I know this.

3) PU Glue is FANTASTIC for lots of things but woodworking glues are still better for woodworking. They are stronger and you can't clean PU glues up with water the way you can even with the waterproof Titebond products. Also if you use biscuits you will have to moisten them separately to get them to swell.

4) KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND ANIMALS! PU glue is waterproof and will swell and harden inside the digestive tract creating a blockage. There is NO antidote and surgery is typically the only solution. There have been MANY cases - just search Google "Dog Gorilla Glue" Wear gloves (rubber or vinyl) and use lots of wax paper.

5) Aliphatic wood glues (Like Titebond II) are still better for wood to wood bonding. Fine Woodworking did a test (Issue #192) and found Polyurethane glues to be about half as strong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but it's available for less, June 7, 2009
This review is from: Elmer's P9416 Ultimate High Performance Glue 8-Ounce (Tools & Home Improvement)
There's no doubt whatever that this glue is every bit as terrific as other reviewers have indicated. I bought some today, and found that it bonded a broken stone item beautifully, despite taking 4 hours to "set up," i.e. dry. Apparently (so says Mr. Wu) the longer glue takes to dry, the better it holds. I believe him.

My only reservation is the price. I got a 16 ounce bottle for $6 in a neighborhood store, with no shipping---only local sales tax. Elmer's ultimate glue may still be cheaper here than other glues. Just shop around for the best price on this item.

Having said that, it IS great glue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked for my gate project, September 21, 2008
This review is from: Elmer's P9416 Ultimate High Performance Glue 8-Ounce (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this versus the other polyurethane glues because it was the right size bottle and less expensive than the others. Getting the right bottle size is important, as any glue you don't use within about a year of breaking the seal just hardens up.

I needed to double-up an eight-foot 2x6 redwood beam without using a lot of fasteners. This glue was the right answer, with one lag bolt at each end. I wedged some boards in as clamps for the first 24 hours, and followed the directions regarding moisture-basically wiping down the twenty-year-old, bone-dry board with water before gluing. Now, a few days later, the two boards make a super-solid post. Polyurethane glue expands, which is good for filling irregular surfaces (like 20-year-old boards), but if looks matter, you will want to scrape off the excess that will squeeze out of the joints before it hardens. And excess glue WILL squeeze out, count on it.

Overall, a good product at a good price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Elmer's Ultimate Glue, January 23, 2012

At the price of this glue, it very hard to just throw away more then 75% of the purchase. Being a carpenter and cabinet maker I've used many types of glue, and this one is the hardest to stop from drying in the container, also there's no warning on the label to advice you of the problem, nor any information on what you might be able to add to keep it in liquid form. I will use it again, but I'll buy the smallest amount possible.

But, the subcontractor to Amazon, Deerso Company, never sent the correct product.
They sent E9416 instead of P9416 which is the Ultimate High Performance glue from Elmer's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent glue, August 9, 2009
This review is from: Elmer's P9416 Ultimate High Performance Glue 8-Ounce (Tools & Home Improvement)
We had a chair that was broken and one of the rungs kept falling out of it. We glued it with that and it is as solid as the day we bought it. No other glue we used worked nearly as well. My sister has glued shoes with it and it held. It is a glue that is easy to use, no mixing invoved, and the best glue we have ever used. I highly recommend this glue!

4.0 out of 5 stars High High High High Performance, October 21, 2009
This review is from: Elmer's P9416 Ultimate High Performance Glue 8-Ounce (Tools & Home Improvement)
I used Elmer's Ultimate High Performance Glue to put up a heavy, stuffed sword fish that I wanted to hang up near my fireplace. It took me all week but I finally got it up. It's held up remarkably well so no issues (note: I live in earthquake country too) except that I put it upside down.

The Glue smells like a Sperm Whale's [blank] so you might be warned to use a respiratory mask and gloves and eye protection since any Glue clots can damage your optic nerve, olfactory nerve or somatosensory system.

The warning on the label is "harmful if swallowed" so don't keep any dead pets around. I have a semi-blind goose-necked pelican who was eyeing the Elmer's Ultimate High Performance Glue, thinking it was a milk bottle.

Wearing a HazMat suit is a good idea if you plan to use buckets of this to glue your hardwood floor, use in a morgue or to use in a wooden wagon repair shop.
