Internal Clock Doesn't Work,
This review is from: Elmo Knows Your Name 2.0 (Toy)
My son loves his Elmo doll. He loves to sing songs and play games with it. But the clock doesn't keep track of his daily rountine correctly. I went through all the steps to create his routine and downloaded the information to Elmo. For about 3 days, the time is correct. Then slowly, Elmo gains time. Soon his 8 am wake-up call is at 5 am. PROBLEM!!
At one point, Elmo was telling us it was time for lunch at 3 am. Love the doll, but the programers need to figure out how to fix the problem.

BIG HIT!,

This review is from: Elmo Knows Your Name 2.0 (Toy)
My daughter LOVES this Elmo! I think what she loves the most is that Elmo says HER name! You can customize this Elmo on your computer and input everything your little one likes to eat, favorite colors, favorite animals, you can even program it for naptime and bedtime sayings! The only problem I found with it is when you choose the option of Elmo automatically knowing and talking when it is mealtime or bedtime is when my daughter's schedule changed. You have to re-hook it up to your computer and change the times or delete all together. Not a big problem but a little cumbersome.
Big hit with my daughter, she drags this Elmo EVERYWHERE!

Just wouldn't work! Elmo does not know your name...,

We hooked this thing up to 2 computers and Elmo never would do anything except say Happy Birthday Eck! My husband fixes computers for a living, so this was not user error. We returned it and got a replacement and had the same problem! Beware. The software is faulty.

Cute pal!,

This review is from: Elmo Knows Your Name 2.0 (Toy)
My sister bought this when my son was 4 1/2 months as a "talking pal" I was a little hesitant because of the recommended age, but the toy bacame an instant hit. The programming was simple to set up and gave me many choices to choose from! (I was later able to change them easily too) I decided to pick the favorite people/foods, ect and the songs at first. Right away my son LOVED the "goodnight friend" song and that "Elmo loves Mommy, too" phrase. The song became a favorite bedtime ritual. Within a few months he enjoyed Elmo saying his name as well as talking back to him after cooing (with my help, of course). Even though Elmo asks for his hand to be squeezed a tummy squeeze will do it as well. I love that the toy is soft (not like the TMX)... I don't use the calender/time features yet so I cannot comment on them. However, he is now 17 months old and can squeeze both hand & belly and can fully interact with his "pal" and takes this elmo and puts it down next to him when "Elmo's world" comes on...it's just too cute. I plan to try the "birthday mode" for his upcoming second birthday. I would recommend this product from Infancy thru preschool.

Great! But needs a time fix!,

Over-all Elmo is great, however FP needs to find a solution for Elmo losing time. You set the time one day for something at 9 am, and every day he loses at least one-two minutes. Other than that its great!

3 stars -- if you're not the one paying for it!,

My daughter received this Elmo from her grandparents last Christmas. (She was 2 1/2.) When I knew they were buying it for her, I was really excited, expecting it to be a HUGE hit! Unfortunately, Elmo has gotten little to *NO* use. He was easily programmable -- both my dad and his computer and myself and my computer had no trouble with this aspect at all. I feel sorry for those who had so much trouble with that IN ADDITION to it not being very exciting for kids!
She just genuinely was NEVER interested. The only part she really liked or paid any attention to whatsoever was a couple of the songs. However, unlike other toys where you can push the button until it gets to the part you want (Fisher Price's Learning Puppy), once Elmo starts to say and/or sing something, you have to listen to the WHOLE thing before he goes on to the next one. Needless to say, that caused her frustration, and thus she lost interest even more quickly! She never paid attention to him announcing the different times of day . . . and that was annoying when it fell at the wrong time! He has literally sat in a bin in her playroom practically untouched. Anytime she did play with him, it was at my prompting and prodding -- just HOPING he'd be the toy I'd thought he would be! When I gave up, so did she. Since he was a gift, I gave him three stars . . . I mean, it's an *OKAY* toy. However, if *I* had spent the money, I would have only given him 2 (or 1 even) . . . he's not worth the amount of money I know he cost.

Fisher price is a reputable toy company with lots of innovative ideas and this CAN be one of them if and when it works. The killer app here is of course, the fact that the doll will remember you child's name and incorporate that into the speech.
The problem is that these dolls were discontinued several years ago. The software has not been updated since. So it will NOT work on Vista, or the upcoming Windows 7 (as tested on RC1). The last software it will work on is probably Windows 98; therefore buying this doll means that you essentially have to maintain a computer with an old operating system (unless you happen to have an old pc lying around). There are several versions of Elmo and other characters, it may be necessary to check each one to see if it will work your computer. Given the high costs of each of these dolls, this can become a very expensive and frustrating enterprise! These dolls are great if you can find one, pay the high prices, and get them to work. Shame on fisher price on not maintaining them, and having such a short service life for their products.

First there are 2 versions of this doll, one has software with all sorts of windows conflicts and you can't download ANY additional names to it. This doll made my computer freeze and other problems, I had to uninstall MS Groove (an Office product) to get it to work properly. It does NOT have dad, daddy, brother, sister, or many other names. I saw dad and daddy on the website so though those issues were resolved, but NO. And customer service won't help. It just isn't worth the money at all. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

So I had read some of the reviews saying that it pronounced names wrong but my daughters name is Zippora and we call her Zippy. I thought surely the thing could say Zippy or atleast Sippy or Zip or something. I assumed it had some kind of program that could sound it out, but no. It had a list. A list of names that my childs name was not on. And you could not use double names which stinks. My daughters last name is Starr and we often call her Zippy Starr. So Ziggy was on the list and Star was on the list and if you could put them together Ziggy Star would have sounded pretty close. They didn't even have her middle name which is lorelei. I'm pretty sure Lorelei is in the top 100 girls names on the social security website. THats where they should have gotten that list from. On the social security website it lists the top 100 boys and girls names for every year. I mean I know Zippora isn't that common but its not totally uncommon either. Its a biblical name for petes sake. So now Elmo calls her Zemora. I thought it was a bit closer than Ziggy. He does however know the names of her sisters and her Uncle which are Abby, Phoebee, and Ezra. They should put that list on the fisher price website so that you atleast have the option of checking it before you buy. Also the box says it says over 100 personalized phrases but you do not choose the phrases it says. All you do is enter in the childs name, birth date, favorite color, animal food, e.t.c., meal and bed times, and the names of three other people. It would be nice if you could choose and program the phrases yourself. I haven't given her the toy yet, but I hope its not a bust.
