4.0 out of 5 stars Possibly THE single most boring 'game' - EVER!, December 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Elmo's Letter Adventure / Elmo's Numbers Journey (Video Game)
Please read all of the reviews for each of the two 'games'. When I say 'games', what I really mean is 'excercises in boredom'...

My daughter is 2 and a half, and purely out of her love of Elmo she requests these games every so often. Within about 3 to 5 minutes she is bored silly, and we're packing them away again.

The gameplay is just soooo painfully slow, and there is no way to speed through the 'game interludes' (read 'excruciating delays').

Movement is restricted to forward, back, and sidestep - basically, you just push the controller forward the whole time and Elmo automatically follows the path - in his own sweet time. I admit that the controls are nice and easy for a youngster, but the speed of response (or lack of it) is the killer here.

Beyond recognizing letters/numbers, there is no real challenge or 'point' to the game. My daughter can count in both English and Spanish, and already knows her alphabet. She can even spell her name! She needs more of a challenge than this! And the reward for completing each level (if you can stay awake long enough to get that far) is a 'bonus game' that puts the final nail in the coffin!

And there's more variety in a small box of chocolates! It is sooo repetitive... It is sooo repetitive... It is sooo repetitive... It is sooo repetitive... Enough already!

4.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BOTHER TO BUY!!!, December 4, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Elmo's Letter Adventure / Elmo's Numbers Journey (Video Game)
If you are expecting a fun Elmo game for your child, THINK AGAIN! This is the MOST boring game in the history of PS games! Well, that's what I think at least. Let me give you a lineup of reasons why not to buy this game. 1. It has the SLLOOOOOOOOWEST character (Elmo) who goes so slow you'd think his legs were made of rubber! You'll fall asleep before he takes 3 steps! 2. The game character(s) ask your child sometimes to press this button, or that button, or press restart on the Ps1. You'll have to help your child about 1,000 times to get to the second (bonus perhaps) level(s) after the first level. The only reason I even rate this one star is because most young children adore Elmo and his friends on Sesame street, the second levels in numbers I have to admit is sort of cool, the space exploring level in letters is sorta cool, and it helps kids in Pre-K to Kindergarden or in their speech. 3. Elmo talks on, and on, and on, and on, until you do what he asks you to press or do. Leave the game on an hour and don't mess with it, and Elmo will still be talking! It bores you till you want to get an exterminator, give him an axe, jump into a coffin and let him obliterate you! Take my advice or if you can put up a risk to keep the terrible game, you do it. I'm warning you though. Every time your child wants to play it, you will be TORTURED the whole time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not For 2 year olds, March 18, 2005
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Elmo's Letter Adventure / Elmo's Numbers Journey (Video Game)
When I bought the Elmo games (4 yrs ago) for my 1st son when he was 2 year old, I thought he'd love it Since he was always asking to play my games and knew who Elmo was. I sat down with him in my lap and try to help him move Elmo around (which was hard for him) and within minutes he'd got bored and walk away & I thought it was how the game worked as to why he'd lose interest in it. Now that he is older and I have 3 sons (ages 6yr, 3yr & 2 yrs old) I realize it's not the game but the *****AGE*****.

2 yr old attention spans is short, even when their absolutely favorite character is on the tv. When my son turn 4 years old I pulled the Elmo games back out and he master the controls with in minutes(with zero help from me) and would play the game for hours!!! When he started preschool the teacher told me what a wonderful job I did teacher him his ABC & numbers. I told her I never did flash card with him, he learn it all from his Elmo games. Now that he is 6 yr old and in 1st grade he doesn't play Elmo anymore but from learning how to work the controls he can play madden 2005 football.

And now my 3 1/2 yr old plays the Elmo games and he too can play them all on his OWN (with zero help form me I don't have to sit there and be bored by the game) and he plays it for hours and because of the game he now can recognize & say all his letters of the alphabet at the age of 3!!!! Most children can't accomplish their ABC till age 4 or 5.

My 2 yr will sit & watch his 3 year old brother play Elmo and if I give my 2 yr old the controls he needs help often with moving Elmo and pushing the right buttons and gives up on the game within minutes. This really is not a game for 2 yr old even some 3 yrs olds, you need good hand & eye coordination and understand of Letter & number. To a 2 yr old what is so fun about finding the number 4 when he has no idea what a 4 is!!! I definitely recommend this game for 4 yrs old it will start them out on the right path for preschool.
