5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Toddler Lift-the-Flaps Board Books Out There!
Trust the 5 star rating this book has received by everyone! I have spent hours researching infant-toddler books in an attempt to foster my 16 mo. old's love of books. After spending major $$ and countless hours shopping for books, I have to say: This is absolutely one of the best interactive books we've ordered. 3.0 out of 5 stars A Mixed Bag: Great Book, Low Quality
I bought this book for my 15-month old son. I agree with all of the reviews listing this book as highly educational and fun for little ones...I mean, who can resist Elmo and the Sesame Street gang? My son even chuckled at Grover getting the hose dumped over him ("dry" versus "wet" when you lift the flap).

What disappointed me, however, was the flimsiness of...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Toddler Lift-the-Flaps Board Books Out There!, July 6, 2005
This review is from: Elmo's Big Lift-And-look Book (Sesame Street) (Great Big Board Book) (Board book)
Trust the 5 star rating this book has received by everyone! I have spent hours researching infant-toddler books in an attempt to foster my 16 mo. old's love of books. After spending major $$ and countless hours shopping for books, I have to say: This is absolutely one of the best interactive books we've ordered. It covers the concepts of numbers, letters, shapes, and opposites. The last page asks the reader to help Elmo search for a missing bear in his playroom. Children can look inside the piano, under an easel, etc. etc. to find it. Though some reviewers have noted that their young babies adore this book, I think it's more appropriate for the over 1 year old crowd. For one thing, it is super large board book. Young babies can't carry or manuever through the pages or flaps well. Secondly, while it's great to provide a numbers/letters introduction to babies, they will have a hard time focusing on the pages (they're very busy) and won't get much out of this book. In fact, while some younger infants (if they can open the flaps) will delight in looking under the number 10 to see the 10 bugs or lifting cookie monster's "full" bucket to see it "empty", they can't quite grasp these concepts yet. So, over all, this is a must-have to own for your 1 year-old and up. You can even purchase it early and then pull it out of the closet periodically to see if your kiddo is ready. Hope this helps. I'm off to search for more books by Anna Ross/Joe Mathieu.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect gift for any child 2 and up!!!, August 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Elmo's Big Lift-And-look Book (Sesame Street) (Great Big Board Book) (Board book)
My son received this book on his 2nd birthday and absolutely loves it to this very day (he is currently 3 1/2 yrs. old). It has helped him learn his numbers, colors, opposites and shapes in the most delightful way! The board pages have helped this book last this long with constant use. The lift-and-look flaps are intriguing to the readers and they really have FUN learning. I have purchased this book as gifts for birthdays and Christmas...it's a sure winner for toddlers and preschoolers

This book is excellent. It covers all the bases--practice with numbers, letters, shapes, opposites and more while using everyday objects and favorite characters to "teach" them all. Plus, there's the fun of lifting the "flaps" to see what's behind many different objects--an activity of great interest to children. My son just loves this book (he's 18 months). He's a big fan of reading, and this certainly would be in his top 3 favorites. I just can't say enough about this book! (As a teacher, I have a great appreciation for how well this book is organized and what all it covers. Teaching and learning is a snap with materials like this!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Elmo's Big Lift-and-Look Book, June 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Elmo's Big Lift-And-look Book (Sesame Street) (Great Big Board Book) (Board book)
This book is one of my 17 month old daughters favorites. It is filled with lots of her Sesame Street favorites and is beautifully illustrated. The flaps in this book are big and sturdy and almost "tear proof" which I am sure will help to provide everyone in our family with many hours of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE, May 30, 2002

I purchased this book for my son who was not even 2 years old at the time and wow! This book was a huge success. It was a great way to introduce numbers, letters and opposites. My son could not get enough of it. He is nearly 3 years old now and still loves this book. It is a lot of fun to watch your child know what to expect from the pages and play along with the pictures. Although it is now extremely "used" and in need of replacement due to excessive use (my son may have loved it a little too much!), it is well worth the money of purchasing a new one. My daughter who is currently 6 months will now get her chance to experience Elmo the same way my son did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, October 27, 2003

This review is from: Elmo's Big Lift-And-look Book (Sesame Street) (Great Big Board Book) (Board book)
Like the review before, this is the 3rd time I've bought this book because it is so loved and worn out. My 22 month old will ask for this book and look and look until she finds it. It is her absolute favorite. She loves all the flaps (and there are lots). We have several other books with flaps, but she always wants this one and she doesn't even really like sesame street yet. This book is not your typical board book size. It is large so it would be hard for a really young baby(say 9 mo.) to hold it. Buy it. It is wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was my baby's favorite book for his first two years, March 17, 2000

This review is from: Elmo's Big Lift-And-look Book (Sesame Street) (Great Big Board Book) (Board book)
We received this book before my baby was born. At first, he just loved looking at the pictures. Later, he learned to lift-and-look by himself. Then, I would ask him to find the shoes or the hot dogs to develop memory skills. Now, he's learning the alphabet when I say "Where is the 'E' for elephant?" Each night, we lift-and-look together and we talk about everything he sees.

At 8 months,he spent 1 hour looking inside each flap, and now at 10 months, its still one of his favorites, he will crawl over and start flipping the pages by himself. he loves the alphabet block page, but i think his favorite seems to be finding ernie and bert and big bird on the numbers page, not to mention the 3 monsters in the big yellow taxi :-) with his vigorous and inexpert tugging it is beginning to get frayed but still hasn'tlost any flaps...

5.0 out of 5 stars Alphabet!, January 4, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Elmo's Big Lift-And-look Book (Sesame Street) (Great Big Board Book) (Board book)
We gave this book to our 16 month old daughter for the holidays and she simply hasn't put it down since. She actually says "alphabet" when she wants to read it, opens to the pyramid of blocks, and proceeds to name the items under each of the letters' flaps. She really loves it. It's also helping her learn her shapes as well as the other Sesame Street characters names. The drawings are beautiful and it's really a lot of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for toddlers!!, November 3, 1999
This review is from: Elmo's Big Lift-And-look Book (Sesame Street) (Great Big Board Book) (Board book)
I purchased this book eight years ago for my first child. Now, my fourth child is nuts about it too. I was thrilled to see it was still in print since my old copy has just about been worn out. My son always knows where his "ELMO" book is and is always eager to open the flaps. He has learned recognition of letters, numbers and pictures and he enjoys every minute of it!
