5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable -- one of Elmo's best
My daughter LOVES this furry little red guy, so we naturally tried to get as many fun to watch DVD's as possible starring ELMO! Unfortunately many don't feature him throughout, and she gets bored, but this edition is jam packed with Elmo from start to finish. Each segment teaches your little one something useful: "Families" show various types of families; "Mail"...

1.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs Down
My daughter loves Elmo and I was dissappointed that it had to show 2 gay dads with a child in the families section. I don't like the way they try to force and use subliminal messages on small children. That goes to show why you have to screen movies before you let your children watch them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable -- one of Elmo's best, August 29, 2004
This review is from: Elmo's World - Families, Mail & Bath Time (DVD)
My daughter LOVES this furry little red guy, so we naturally tried to get as many fun to watch DVD's as possible starring ELMO! Unfortunately many don't feature him throughout, and she gets bored, but this edition is jam packed with Elmo from start to finish. Each segment teaches your little one something useful: "Families" show various types of families; "Mail" teaches how mail is created and mailed, how it gets to wherever it's going; "Bath Time" is hilarious with a long segment starring Mr. Noodle goofing around showing us what "supplies" you need to take a bath. There are scenes with washing babies, animals, etc. Your child will easily associate their own routines with those played out in each segment and of course have fun singing the silly song Elmo plays on his piano.
ALSO HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IS WAKE UP WITH ELMO!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Video, Ignore Fascist Statements, February 20, 2006
This review is from: Elmo's World - Families, Mail & Bath Time (DVD)
I found this DVD to be rather entertaining and educational. I (26-year-old father) bought it for my 18-month-old. Here's my take on different points:

Quality: The video and audio quality are both very good. Although, I found the crayon-drawn set and overuse of computer effects to be too excessive, and rather annoying. I'm not sure how this is viewed through the eyes of a toddler though.

Age Appropriateness: I think the video is better suited for children 2 1/2 and up. My son will likely have to grow into this video. For kids two and under, I HIGHLY suggest "The Best of Elmo" and "Cookie Monster's Best Bites", both of which my son (and we as parents) love.

Educational Value: I believe that an older child (3yrs & up) will benefit from this much more than a toddler. There are good lessons to be learned, but they are over the head of infants and young toddlers.

Entertainment: The video was rather amusing, but not as engaging for our 1 1/2 year-old as the aforementioned recommendations. We as adults didn't find the video very amusing, but ages 3-6 would I'm sure.

Now, to address the issue of previous fascist statements. First, the only "inclusion" of homosexuality is a 2-second snippet showing two men and a young child eating ice cream. There is nothing at all saying that these men are gay and are both the "fathers" of the child. Sure, if you go by stereotypes, they appeared as though they were likely gay, but the video confirmed nothing. The guys could have been best friends eating ice cream with the child of one of the men while the wife was shopping. I've been with a friend before when he was babysitting his son in a public place...if we appeared gay, those that were perceiving such need to find something better to do with their time.

The same people that had a problem with the alleged homosexual reference may have also had a problem with the interracial couples. If you are one of these people, the video is NOT for you. You'd be better off locking your child in the basement, cutting off all forms of outside communication, and showing him Nazi propoganda. That way, your little extremist can be 100% brainwashed and ready to commit hate crimes when unleashed. Grow up.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Elmo's World - Families, Mail & Bath Time (DVD)
My daughter is almost 18 months old and she loves this dvd. I've been able to get her to take her bath by singing the bath time song the Elmo sings. This is a great dvd to buy for your kid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Okay video for older toddlers, April 2, 2006
This review is from: Elmo's World - Families, Mail & Bath Time (DVD)
I bought this for my son when he was about 12months because he absolutely loves Elmo and they did not have any other movie available in the store at the time.... however, he is 2 1/2 years now and still loves to watch this video. He loves to sing along and dance with the video..... I would tell the other parents if your child did not notice or ask about the homosexual couple (which I don't remember) in the video don't let it bother you and they probably don't see it as that, they probably see it like Bert and Ernie (which could be homosexuals, also and nobody ever suggested that!!) soo leave it alone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for you Elmo's World, October 23, 2005
This review is from: Elmo's World - Families, Mail & Bath Time (DVD)
I'm appalled at people's reaction here to a same-sex couple being depicted briefly in the Elmo's World episode on Families. What are you teaching your children about our world and acceptance of others if you filter this kind of content from your children? Sorry folks, but like it or not this is a reality of the world we live in, and the sooner children learn not to be as shocked by this as their parents may be, the sooner we will all be able to live together in peace. How do you plan to filter this reality in your child's classroom? Out in the comunity? Even in church? If anything the choice to depict diversity in families is commendable and a reason to recommend this DVD, not to condemn it. Use it as an opportunity to dialogue with your children if you must, but by filtering it you are living in ignorant denial.

Elmo's World-Families, Mail & Bath Time! is my 17 month year old son's favorite DVD! He has watched this DVD so many times that I have lost count! He jumps up and down and gets so excited whenever he knows he going to watch Elmo..Barney, The Wiggles are not as interesting as Elmo to this kid! I'm going to have to check out some of the other ones available as this is the only one I have at the moment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD to learn the concept of family, mail and bathtime, August 13, 2004
This review is from: Elmo's World - Families, Mail & Bath Time (DVD)
My son is 4 years old and still loves this DVD. As for all Elmo's World video/DVD, there is no storyline but to learn basic concept about family, mail and bathtime, it's a perfect tool. I'd say the targeted audience is 2-3 years old.

I only wish each segment is separated since it's a DVD because right now when one segment ends, the next segment starts immediately and I don't want my son to watch the segments back to back (it's 50 minutes long, usually we allow him to watch for 15-20 minutes at a time). Still, I'm glad I got a DVD version as the other Elmo video we have is already worn out due to repeated viewing.
