Definitely buy ELO. But not THIS particular album.,

I'm one of ELO's biggest fans...I have every album they ever made, and a few they never made. :-) I really enjoy their music, and by no means do I mean to discourage you from buying them. But *this* particular album was made from a pretty bad master. There are at least a couple tracks on this CD that are badly distorted...I believe "wow" is the word for what's in the recordings. If you want a similar ELO collection CD in the same price range...though obviously not with the same tracks...try "ELO's Greatest Hits" instead. If price is no object and you want the best ELO collection in one package, I heartily recommend the expensive but wonderful "Light Years" 2-CD import, with the "Afterglow" box set of 3 CDs running a close second. Or, if you want one of their regular albums (and ELO *does* sometimes lose a bit when you take some of their songs out of context), I recommend "Out Of The Blue" as one of their best. But whichever you do, I urge you to pass up this one, save your money and get a different ELO CD of better quality.

Great band, weak compilation,

The only reason why this CD gets 3 stars instead of 2 is that ELO is one of the best bands in history and Jeff Lynne is one of the best songwriters/producers in rock history and this CD should have at least 18 cuts, I wish that they didn't edit out the intros to Boy Blue, Birmingham Blues and Ma Ma Ma Belle and I wonder how come songs like Turn to Stone, Strange Magic, Livin Thing, Do Ya and Shine a Little Love aren't on here.Fortunately we do have a couple of their underrated songs like Bluebird and Loser Gone Wild (which should've been on the Strange Magic Anthogoly). If you're a new fan of ELO, I would pick up Strange Magic: The Best of ELO cause it has 29 tracks from 1972-86 and the booklet is very informative.

Don't judge it by its cover...it rocks!,

ELO CLASSICS is well-named, if shabbily packaged. Still, for a budget CD, it's filled to the brim with some killer cuts...not a weak second goes by in its 42 minutes of music. Mingled with hits like "Evil Woman," "Telephone Line," "Don't Bring Me Down," and "Can't Get it Out of My Head," are classic album tracks like "Boy Blue," "Rockaria," "Ma-Ma-Ma Belle," and "Birmingham Blues." Whether by design or coincidence, this album focuses on some of ELO's vintage rockers, reminding us once again that strings can swing. Also, two superb cuts from the unjustly underrated SECRET MESSAGES album are included: "Bluebird," and "Loser Gone Wild." If you like this CD, you might check out BURNING BRIGHT, a similarly priced collection of superb ELO tracks.
