4.0 out of 5 stars better than the fallout, December 6, 2003
By

This review is from: Elocation (Audio CD)
song by song:

1 - who followed who - awesome way to open the album. catchy tune and nice guitar parts. 10/10

2 - (taking my ) life away - not the best song for the first single but it still gets me singing along with it. slow but shows great vocal skill from Dallas. 7/10

3 - movin' on - great lyrics but not exactly one of the songs that got my hooked on. it'll take more spins to do that. 8/10

4 - throw it all away - whoa chad kroeger's done it again. this song is my second favorite on the album and the chorus rox. 10/10

5 - cruel - haven't heard the original song by jeff buckley but i think that default covered it pretty damn well. best song for vocals. 10/10

6 - made to lie - probably the weakest song on the album. it's a slowish song and a break from the rest of the cd. 7/10

7 - crossing the line - stellar rebound from 'made to lie' a rockin song that gets you singing at the top of your lungs. 10/10

8 - without you - an ok song. not much to say about it. slow. lovely dovey lyrics. 8/10

9 - break down doors - a song that they played a lot on their tour before elocation came out. great guitar parts and a rockin song. 10/10

10 - enough - great vocals both lead and backing. not much to say. 9/10

11 - all she wrote - my absolute favorite song. when i first heard it i just knew. it's slow and depressing. so my sort of song :) starts out with a great acoustic guitar part and it really shows Dallas' singing skills. 11/10

12 - alone - heard this a little more than a year ago when they played Pacific Coliseum with Nickelback (oct 25, 2003) great closer (kinda) 10/10

13 - let you down (acoustic) bonus - one of my favorite songs off of the fallout and awesome bonus track to add to a kick ass cd. 10/10

I listned to the cd, and there are honestly no words to describe how great it is. It totally exceded my expectations and every song is awesome. Here is a song by song comparison:

1. Who Followed Who - A nice fast way to start of the cd with a fast song, it shows of Dallas's voice really well, and the solo also helps

2. (Taking My) Life Away - Not much else can be said about this song, its awesome, good choice as a first single

3. Movin' On - The only song I haven't listened to much. Might take a couple more listens, but still a very good song

4. Throw it All Away - I have loved this song from day one and it didn't dissapoint. This song gives me chills listening to it. The guitars are super heavy and Dallas' voice is superb

5. Cruel - Another favorite of the album, definatly showcases Dallas' voice. An awesome song to crank up the volume on.

6. Made to Lie - A nice rest after all of the heavier songs. A really great flowing song with great energy

7. Crossing the Line - Probably my second favorite song on the album, Jeremy's guitar playing is great, definatly some of his best work.

8. Without You - Not one of my favs, but once again an awesome song, really good lyrics, and another nice solo from Jeremy

9. Break Down Doors - I've heard this song so many times live, and yet it still blew me away when I listened to it. A really fast intense song, also love the new solo Jeremy added.

10. Enough- Another great song, can't remember it to much right now, but I like Danny's drumming

11. All She Wrote - An absolutly beautiful song, love the flow and the lyrics, a great slow song

12. Alone- Another song ive heard live and they changed it up with the piano to give it a really cool vibe.

Contrary to what many people are saying, this album is very different from The Fallout, and I personally think that it is much better

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible record, December 16, 2003

Default has not let you down with their second album, Elocation. It is even better than their first, The Fallout, which received tremendous success with the song "Wasting My Time". You can tell the band has grown and expanded their talent. They have found the perfect balance between hard, edgy rock and harmounious melodies. The Jeff Buckley cover "Cruel" is amazing. Throw it All Away and All She Wrote are some other great tracks. I recommend to anyone who likes great rock music to pick this one up.
