The Eloise character grew out of the voice of a precocious six-year-old that Miss Thompson put on to amuse her friends. Collaborating with Hilary Knight on what was an immediate bestseller, Kay Thompson became a literary sensation when Eloise was published in 1955. The book has sold more than two million copies to date. Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight created four more Eloise books, Eloise in Paris, Eloise at Christmas, Eloise in Moscow, and Eloise Takes a Bawth.
Hilary Knight, son of artist-writers Clayton Knight and Katharine Sturges, was educated at the Art Students League, where he studied with Reginald Marsh. Besides the Eloise books, Hilary Knight has illustrated more than fifty books for children, six of which he wrote himself.
He lives and works in New York City, not far from The Plaza Hotel.
Ellen Weiss is the author of many books for children, including Whatever You Do, I Love You, for Little Simon. She has also written extensively for children's television, and she lives in New York.

This is a fun, easy to read tale of a fun little girl. My four year old granddaughters love this book. I wish there were more books in this series.

My daughter loves this book so much she asked her teacher if she could bring it to class on Monday. She reads it on her own but does need help with some words. She asked why does each book start with Eloise saying she is 6, introducing herself and saying where she lives. I told her its because she wants every new reader to know it because they may not have all the books. She is learning to recognize new words and now when she watches her movie she can look at the book and say she said that right here in the book. BTW the movie she has is a christmas episode not this title which I do hope is included on one of the episode collections.
