More About the Author

Jeff Strand was born in Baltimore, Maryland, but moved to Fairbanks, Alaska when he was six months old, so his memories of Baltimore are hazy. He grew up in the cold, where he desperately wanted to be a cartoonist. Then he wanted to make video games. Then he wanted to write movies. Actually, he still wants to do all of those things, but for now he's quite happy writing lots of demented novels.

He was nominated for the Bram Stoker Award in 2006, 2008, and 2010. His novel PRESSURE has been optioned for film; he's hoping the movie will be made soon so he can scream "My baby! What have you done to my precious baby?!?"

His novels are usually classified as horror, but they're really all over the place, from comedies to thrillers to drama to, yes, even a fairy tale (FANGBOY).

This story is written by (and about) Elrod McBugle and his weird adventures at Greenwater Junior High. It may be the first of a series. I can only hope so since I enjoyed it sooooo much!

It all begins on Elrod's first day at Greenwater Junior High. His best friend is nick-named Scoopy. The two are simply trying to live through the school year. NOT an easy task for Elrod. Elrod manages to doodle fine artwork (that the principal confiscates for himself), make and sell a super delicious new type of gum (that has just a side effect or two), make friends with the school bullies (surely all those students will heal without too many permanent scars), win the talent show (and forever be remembered for it), catch a killer, and more! (Though I still do not know how the gym floor got to be so blinding a color, but perhaps that mystery will be solved in a sequel.)

For now, know that this is a wonderful and hilarious book for all ages! So go purchase a whole bunch of Slurpy Gulp, put up your feet, and enjoy the latest novel by Jeff Strand (who I still believe to be just a little bit strange!)

Junior high student Elrod McBugle doesn't intend to get into to trouble, it just sort of happens. Between eyeballs in beverage containers, pink bubble gum created in science lab, and ax murders, Elrod creates a memorable school year too good to miss!

Jeff Strand's classically irreverent voice once again strikes IN ELROD MCBUGLE ON THE LOOSE. If you love Dennis the Menace, or if you've enjoyed any of his other novels such as GRAVEYARD ROBBERS WANTED, then don't miss one! Strand's teen voice will launch hysterical laughter even in those who ordinarily refuse to give in to giggles. Even if junior high is only a memory, readers of any age will find Elrod's shenanigans amusing. ELROD MCBUGLE ON THE LOOSE is very highly recommended!
