5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING EFFORT WELL DESERVING OF FIVE STARS!!!!! September 8, 2011
Format:Audio CD
The wife and I were watching a Springsteen DVD (Hydepark) when she brought my attention to Brian Fallon singing with Bruce. Then one night when I was getting ready to check out for the day, David Letterman introduced GASLIGHT ANTHEM as the musical guest. Man was I taken by that performance! Gaslight lit it up! I became an instant fan. The next day I bought all of their CDs, checked out their website, and became somewhat interested in learning anything I could about these guys. Now one thing you should know about me is that I am a man in my 50's and my musical tastes, while extremely broad, are not so quick to take on a new band or songwriter in today's music. I prefer the music and the artists I grew up with. BUT, after "LISTENING" to what Mr.Fallon brings to the table as a songwriter and a musician, I can honestly say I am extremely impressed with the talent level of each effort brought forth by the Gaslight Anthem, and now, THE HORRIBLE CROWES. Call this album a side project if you will for Fallon. The 12 songs on this Cd are nothing short of amazing, and perhaps "masterpieces". While on the surface these songs come off on the mellow side, Fallon's lyrics are intense and the music will resonate in your brain gaining more and more momentum upon each listen. If you are a fan, please do not over-look this release. You will dig it! In my opinion Brian Fallon and his Comrades are getting more and more well versed as artists, with each effort put forth. Again, nothing short of 5 STARS! for this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Serene, yet raw. Fallon has the Midas Touch October 11, 2011
By scott o

Fallon has soul. No one is going to argue this factual statement. He's well on his way to brush shoulders with the boss and his music only gets better with each album. This album delivers a hybrid dimension of Fallon that the masses deserve to hear.

If you've ever heard Brian Fallon's studio recordings for '59' Sound' and 'American Slang,' they are both ripped from vinyl with the deep richly smooth sound that enhances Fallon's voice. On the other hand, if you listen to 'Sink or Swim' or hear Fallon live, there is a huge degree of raw grace and to an extent, "dirtiness" that that stuns the hell out of you. This album is a combination of both.

Starting to gracefully looming songs like 'Last Rites' and 'Sugar,' the mood is absolutely serene. The album then breaks loose as Fallon flips his blue collar and unleashes his soul in 'Go Tell Everybody' and 'Maryann.' This is the Fallon that we've been missing from GLA since Sink Or Swim. He truly redlines his vocals and soul to deliver what may easily be the album of the year. In a time where bands are relying on electro beats and redundant chords, Fallon slaughters the competition with this album. His best work next to '59' Sound.'

5.0 out of 5 stars The Horrible Crowes are anything but March 6, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
These guys are phenomenal. I've been looking for music that's not over-produced, shiny, prepackaged crap, and this is it. The music is soulful, heartfelt, and if it doesn't make you want to sing at the top of your lungs and cry your eyes out, then you have no idea what good music is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just wonderful March 6, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said before about this album I'm sure, but it really is probably one of the best rock albums to come out in the past year. Brian Fallon continues to prove he is one of the best lyricists of our time on this album, and brings a new voice to a couple tracks as well that those who are fans of The Gaslight Anthem will notice on tracks like Ladykiller where he seems to summon Bono and Tom Waits, but other tracks have enough Gaslight in them to not put off the old faithful fans. The over arching theme of loneliness and lost love will get you through that rough spring break heartache, and songs like Cherry Blossoms and Behold the Hurricane will remind you that you're not the only one drinking your troubles away. Musically you'll find a lot of down tempo bluesy rock, and some up tempo nearly punk rock beats. Fallon's, or Gaslight's usual solo-like leads that run through their tracks are replaced by clean chorused arpeggios, and church organs, and blues piano which lends more to the somber nature of many of the songs on the album, and give this album a distinctive sound that will put you back into the smoke filled Blues and Jazz joints of the mid twentieth century. Any rock fan would be amiss to not at least take a listen and check out this wonderful record.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow, Dark Gaslight Anthem. October 10, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Cd wasnt really what I hoped for. I was hoping for a Brian Fallon Accustic release. All in all, the cd is still great. Just a slower, darker Gaslight Anthem. Some songs dont work, while others do. Sugar, Lady Killer, Crush, Hurrican are stand out tracks. If your a fan of gaslight anthem pick it up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Album November 21, 2011
By blacks
Format:MP3 Music
I guess maybe my review might be a bit partial due to the fact that I love The Gaslight ANthem, but this album start to finish is fantastic. I enjoy the slower version of Brian Fallon as much as the rock and roll with a bit of punk that is The Gaslight Anthem. I hope that the Horrible Crowes will do a US tour, hard to imagine with the Gaslight Anthem going to the studio to start recording their 4th album in a few weejs though.
Just buy this album, then buy the discogrpahy of The Gaslight ANhtem, you will be glad you did. Im just glad real rock still exist!
