Martha Finley penned the adventures of Elsie Dinsmore, over more than 38 years, often using members of her own family for characterization. Truth, faith, religion, morality, and humanity are the underlying virtues woven throughout the storytelling of this extraordinary series of fiction for children.
As Miss Finley's stories evolve, Elsie Dinsmore is faced with a myriad of trials and tribulations. Elsie's devout faith and clear knowledge of Scipture enable her to persevere through each troublesome circumstance. As Elsie matures into a godly woman, so her unique family grows, adding to the lovable - and sometimes not so likeable - cast of Miss Finley's interesting characters.
In 1868, the New York firm of Dodd Mead released the first "Elsie" book, Elsie Dinsmore, becoming an instant bestseller. The successful series, The Elsie Books, was launched, making Finley one of the most renowned children's writers of her time, with book sales second only to Louisa May Alcott. By 1945, 5 million copies of volumes 1-12, alone, had been sold.
Hibbard Publications is honored to bring back this series of timeless classics, full of the family values and personal faith that are jeopardized in today's society. We hope The Elsie Books will inspire today's reader, as they have for generations, to find richer relationships with the members of their family and with the Lord. --This text refers to an alternate Mass Market Paperback edition.

Wonderfull!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Elsie's Girlhood (The Elsie Books, Volume 3) (Elsie Books, Vol 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Elsie's Girlhood is a wonderful book. Elsie goes to vist her fathers aunt, but while there, Arther, her cousin makes up a sheme that will free him from a debt, but that will forever ruin and disgrace Elsie's life. Read this splendid book to find out what the sheme is and if Elsie will fall for it. I have all the Elsie books till book 16 and I recommend reading till book 14, book 15 and 16 are not as interesting.

Book Report for Mrs.Stewart (I love this book!),

This review is from: Elsie's Girlhood, Book 3 (Elsie Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Elise's Girlhood by Martha FinleyThe conflict is that Elsie falls in love with Egerton. She cannot marry him at the climax. It is resolved when Travilla and Elsie engage. Elsie is a godly woman who respects her father and his choices greatly. She has a tender spirit that is easily crushed though. Others are attracted to her because she is open and caring and they can tell she is beautiful within. The theme is that you need to respect authority, no matter what, because they know better than you do on most matters. I loved the book! Only girls would enjoy it though. Even though it was written in the 1860's, you didn't notice that it was. I would recommend it to any girl and I will certainly read the rest of the books

I Couldn't Stop Smiling,
By Kimberly M. "Kimberly" (TX, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Elsie's Girlhood, Book 3 (Elsie Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
In my opinon this where the Elsie series should have stopped. I own all of the Elsie books and my opinon this is by far the best. What Elsie fans think is coming at the end of book two actually happens. At the end of this book I couldn't stop smiling when Travilla finally professed his love!!!-- It was probably the most romantic ending I've ever read. I've read and re-read this book probably a hundred times and still seems just as touching as when I first read it. The Travilla events in this book are so touching and personal you find yourselves wishing you were in Elsie's shoes. As in all of the Elsie books things start out slow and boring but, quickly become interesting once you get into the story. This is in my opinon is the crown jewel in her writing, I would recomend the Elsie books to anyone who has a young daughter or who is a Christian... these books are meant to be an example on morallity and beauty. Buy the first four trust me you will not regret it!!!
