Best protection you can buy for your face, August 3, 2008
This review is from: EltaMD UV Sport SPF 50 (Misc.)
My wife's Cancer doctor gave her the previous version (Elta Gold UV Sport SPF 50). To protect here face from the sun. We have both used it and love it. It is the only thing we use on our faces when riding our motorcycles. It has never run into our eyes even on the hotest days. (105 F and above) and provides excellent protection all day. The best part is that a dab a little bigger than 2 peas is all that is needed to cover your entire face and neck for all day protection. We both highly recomend this product.

great product!, April 8, 2010
This review is from: EltaMD UV Sport SPF 50 (Misc.)
Given a relatively recent scary bout with melanoma, I'm all ears when my doctor implores me to wear sunscreen whenever I'm out of doors. Now, I don't like to use sunscreen because I don't like the feel of anything on my skin, but my dermatologist gave me some samples of Elta sun screens and suggested I try them. He assured me I'd hardly notice I had this on. That's not quite true. If you wear glasses, ANYTHING applied to your nose will soon show its ugly little head on the lenses. Still, this product doesn't feel greasy; it stays on a long time; it doesn't come off in the pool (under normal circumstances) and it protects (hopefully) as doctor and Elta promise. I compared labels against competing products at a major brand name drug store. The bulk of the top sheld sun screens promised the same protection against UVA and UVB, and the ingredients were by and large the same, except that this product also contains zinc (or was it zinc oxide? sorry, don't have a tube in front of me at the moment). None of the other products did. I don't know the theraputic or protective attributes of zinc or zinc oxide are, but that's this brand's "competitive edge" I wore this all day every day while in Florida for a week in late March, and returned home almost as pale as before I left. I suppose you could call that a ringing endorsement of the sun screening capabilities of the product. I found that I could get Elta MD UV Sport Waterproof SPF 50 at my favorite store (Amazon), and since I needed it in three days prior to a trip to Florida, I opted for the 2 day one-clock purchase.

the best high SPF, minimally harmful, sweatproof sunblock around, August 21, 2011
This review is from: EltaMD UV Sport SPF 50 (Misc.)
I ordered this product after doing some research on the Environmental Working Group's online database of the least harmful sunblocks. This product scored extremely well and I was glad to see I could get it on Amazon. The first time I used it, I didn't love it--mostly because, even after you take a shower, you still feel like you have this on you (skin feels a little chalky). However, it has grown on me for a few reasons: 1) like most of the better-for-you sunblocks, it is a physical block, not a chemical one that absorbs into your skin and puts potentially harmful stuff into your bloodstream; 2) most physical blocks literally just sit right on your skin--they turn your skin ghostly white (and as a very pale redhead with freckles, I didn't think ANYTHING could make me whiter) and don't absorb well--this product is far better than most in this regard. It goes on white and kind of dry at first, but it rubs in pretty easily; 3) it has absolutely no smell to it (and I have an uncommonly strong nose and aversion to fragrances and poor-smelling fragrance-free products too); and 4) if you use a loofah sponge or exfoliant in the shower, that chalky, it's-still-on-you feeling goes away; and last but not least 5) it works very well. I have only thus far worn it to the beach and not in athletics/sports situations yet, so not sure how often it has to be re-applied, but it did great on the beach. I also ordered the Elta MD SPF 30 lotion in the pump bottle--this is a great, light lotion for everyday use. I put it on my arms, hands, and chest each morning before my long ride to work in a car with untinted windows. I love that I don't smell like I'm wearing sunblock at work. For face, I am still a big fan of Devita SPF 30 for face--highest rating again on EWG's site, and goes on very rich/creamy. However, I put this Elta MD Sport SPF 50 on my face today before heading out kayaking (which got cancelled so I can't report on how well it worked), and found that, once rubbed in, it didn't make my face appear ghostly or greasy. Overall, I am extremely happy to have found this and the other products I've mentioned.
