Still Standing After 40 Years,

I had the pleasure of seeing the Red Piano show in Las Vegas a week before this DVD was released and while the program was altered slightly the DVD is still a good representation of the magic that is created onstage at Caesar's Palace.
Elton John and his band work their wat through fifteen classics in a pan of 90 non stop minutes on one of the worlds biggest stages. Far from being a sentimental show of all the hits, John breathes new life into his catalogue and the smallness of the venue makes the whole thing surprisingly intimate. The show works on several levels: for those who want bright colors and cool scenery its all there. For those looking for deeper meaning the background films by David LaChapelle add a distinct layer of meaning to the familiar songs. Highlights feature a stunning version of Rocket Man, Candle in the Wind and an unbelievable pole dance by Pamela Anderson to the Bitch is Back. The DVD billed as a Best Buy Exclusive also features a 53 minute making of feature and the eleven background LaChapelle films. Two CD's comprising the soundtrack are also included. Well worth the price of admission. |
