I was there!
I was actually in Memphis the night this concert was taped and was lucky enough to be in the audience for the first show. He actually played two shows that night. The room was warm. The beer was cold. The crowd, tightly packed into a small space, was lively. But enough about atmosphere, you want to hear about the concert.
You know how it is when you go to a...

Nice..but serious mixing board hiss on some tracks...
I thought it was a corrupt disc, but after the production company sent me another copy I realized there were problems in the same area. Tracks 7-9 have some sort of digital audio hiss. Very annoying to say the least. If you can get over the hiss, the rest of the tracks are fine. I keep wondering why they would release compromised audio like that..

Great show -- great on BluRay!, August 24, 2009
I had seen parts of this concert a few times on a cable music channel, and was happy to see it was available on blu-ray. It's great to have this show on disc because it has some songs that weren't on the televised version, and the picture quality is amazing. Elvis' purple shirt, and the outfits of Emmylou Harris and the Imposters, really pop! Of course, the best part is the music. There are songs I hadn't heard before and I like them every bit as much as the familiar songs. It's fun to see the band in an intimate setting, too, as opposed to a bigger hall. The crowd reaction is part of the payoff. Worth every penny!

Elvis Costello & The Imposters "Live in Memphis" DVD = An Oustanding Close-up Performance at Their Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!, April 27, 2009
This is an outstanding "close-up" performance of Elvis & the Imposters "Live" at the Memphis Hi Tone cafe. This is my favorite Elvis Costello DVD. You get a line-up of Elvis on guitar & lead vocals, Steve Nieve on keyboards & flutes, Pete Thomas on drums & a bass guitar player
(I can't remember his name right now, but he is an excellent bass guitar player. He replaced the original bass player who was in the "Attractions".
I got to see this line-up of Elvis and this band at the 2005 New Orleans Jazz Festival and they were outstanding. This dvd was released just before the Jazz Festival that year. I was in the New Orleans French Quarter the night before their performance, I had just purchased this dvd from the "Mega Virgin Music Store", and I happened to come face to face with Elvis & this band on Canal Street. I was surprised, I followed them down Bourbon Street, and found myself walking next the Pete Thomas. I asked him if he thought it'd be okay, if I asked Elvis for an Autograph. He told me to "go for it". So I kindly asked Elvis for an autograph, and he signed the cover of my DVD of this concert, right on the front cover. I was real impressed with how friendly Elvis & his band were.
Now, the DVD - This is the Elvis style that I really like. This dvd showcases songs from the album he had just released "The Delivery Man". I also have the "Deluxe Version", 2 disc cd of that release. It was recorded in Memphis, Clarksdale, Ms. & Oxford, Ms. Also, in the dvd, you get to watch Elvis & the Imposters perform some of their "rock" classics.
You get a special guest artist: EmmyLou Harris (She & Elvis do some great duets). You get a basic song set of 20 songs, plus 4 more bonus songs.
You also get an "outstanding" special feature where Elvis & Pete Thomas take a Road Trip Documentary "Off the Beaten Path" They are in a 1950'S cadillac with a Chaufeur. They travel through Memphis, the Mississippi Delta (including Clarksdale, MS), and Helena, Arkansas (They cross the Mississpi River). Then they venture back into Mississippi and into the Mississippi "Hill Country" and go to Oxford, MS (the home of Ole Miss).
This is an outstanding concert dvd with excellent bonus material, and I highly, gladly recommend it. Thanks!!!!

Electric Elvis, March 11, 2009
A great looking BD, great at 1080p, good sound also. These are fairly raw versions of some of Elvis' classic songs, from way back until some of the newer stuff. A lot of great songs are missing and some of the stuff on the BD would not be missed if it had been omitted. Overall, though, a great BD for fans. I would have liked a little more of his "pop" material, and a little less of the Impostors, but that is just me.

Club Date Live in Memphis, November 15, 2008
Elvis Costello brought his Delivery Man tour to Memphis for two club shows at the Hi Tone Cafe on September 16, 2004. Playing with the Imposters (Steve Nieve, Pete Thomas and Danny Faragher), Costello performs a quick though edited 25 song show that allowed him to play some of his older material (Radio, Radio; The Mystery Dance; Alison; Pump It Up) along with ten songs from his then new album, The Delivery Man. Also included are three duets with Emmylou Harris.
The picture quality and sound are excellent on the Blu-Ray version of the disc. If there is any problem with the set it is that the show seems overly edited at times. This may have been to put the best cuts from the two show stand on one disc. It would have been better perhaps to have gone for the complete show warts and all type of presentation since four tracks obviosly from the same set are added as a bonus feature.
The disc includes a well made documentary "Off the Beaten Path" which shows Costello and drummer Pete Thomas as they tour the South from Memphis to Oxford, Mississippi where the Delivery Man was recorded.
This is a good disc that gives a fairly good retrospective of Costello's career. Buy it.

Tour with Elvis in a pink Caddy, March 8, 2008
Get this one for the extras -- Elvis and Pete take a tour through Memphis, Helena, Clarksdale and Oxford, hitting all the cool spots: Stax, KFFA, little studios, clothing shops, the Shack-Up Inn. Along the way EC shares his knowledge of great American R&B. Makes you wanna revisit Highway 61.

real live show, February 19, 2008
i was lucky enough to actually see elvis at one of the shows at the hitone. it was amazing. a huge act in a tiny club, and he just kept rocking, no stops, just constant.
the people who are complaining about the flubs and him not singing just like the records, blah. it was a live show, that's what happens.
if you want cleaned up and boring, this is not for you. if you want raw and alive, then buy this.
amazing stuff here.

Next best thing to being there, October 22, 2007
This is a fantastic show. The DVD includes such goodies as extra songs and a documentry that documents EC's purchase of the purple shirt he wore onstage to an impromptu performance of "Needle time".
I'm in my mid-forties and my Mother enjoyed this show more than just a little.
There is a Blue Ray version for us HD freaks but in either format the show kills.
Chatropolis Rocks! If you can't keep it up "Pump it up"!

Great Live Show, August 6, 2007
I read the other reviews here and was struck by some who said Elvis looked "puffy and sweaty". They've obviously never played a small club with heat generating amps and lighting raising the temp above the average comfort level. He sweats. So what? He's put on a few pounds. So have we all. He still rocks like no other and I can wholeheartedly recommend this set. The extras are great. Good to see Elvis discovering America. Made me realize how little we value our own national treasures. To see them through his eyes was very interesting.
Buy it. you'll like it.

An Elvis Sampling, December 16, 2006
The reviews on this disc have ranged from 3 to 5 stars which seems about right. If you are an EC fan, you'll like this DVD but you probably have memories of him that are better than what you'll see here.
In my case, I saw this show (sans Emmylou Harris) in St Louis and the band seemed more pumped than they were at this show in Memphis. I also remember the first time I saw him in 1979 when the Attractions ripped through a 60 minute set and Elvis left the stage in a huff because he was po'd at the radio station that sponsored the concert. No one could claim he wasn't pumped up that night.
His career has been so prolific over the last 30 years there is no way one concert could cover all his major works and this Dvd is no exception. I liked the Alison/Suspicious Minds number and has there ever been a bad version of Peace Love & Understanding?
If you are a Costello fan you will like this show but probably want more. If you are new to him, this is a pretty good place to start but not to end.

I wanna PUMP IT UP!!!, April 15, 2006
A few reviewers have given this DVD indifferent ratings. I'd like to change this.
The disc is great on many different levels. Elvis rocks his heart out on stage, and his duets with Emmylou Harris are nothing less than sublime. He also takes us on a long tour of the Southern locales that have inspired him throughout his career. His vocal and instrumental chops are first-rate, whether he is performing solo or with the band, acoustic or electric, before stomping, hooting crowds, or alone with a piano in a small studio. He meets performers and fans and really seems to enjoy talking to them.
(I saw Elvis in a one-man show in Seattle in 2005, and he has never been better. At the peak of his form, and with just a guitar and an empty stage, he put on a long, ebullient, and amazingly rich performance, filling a stadium with thousands of his fans who stood in rapt attention when they weren't cheering and singing along, playing hit after hit from the length and breadth of his oeuvre.)
Get this DVD to understand the power of Elvis live!
