5.0 out of 5 stars 50,000,000 Elvis Freaks Can't Be Wrong, November 26, 1999

Even if you own the 50's box set it is nice to own the individual albums especially since RCA has finally done the right thing and reissued this album with all the gold certificates he had at the time of original release and not just a portion. The original album only had twelve tracks but the newly released compact disk has twenty tracks. It's a classy album from head to toe and the music sounds great ! My personal favorites on this album are One night and A Fool Such AS I.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dressed For Success, RCAs Golden Boy, March 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
These songs were recorded while Eisenhower was president. Most of what Ike did was OK but it didn't have the impact or lasting effect of these and other Elvis 50s songs. Elvis was the style leader of the 20th Century and these songs are evidence of his importance. The guitar work on "I Need Your Love Tonight" and the raw enthusiasm will still get hearts pounding faster. "One Night" was written by Antoine "Fats" Domino. Elvis cut 2 versions of this. This album features the safe hit lyrics. For the other version check out "Elvis, A Legendary Performer, Vol. 4." "Don't" is a nice slow rock Leiber-Stoller tune. The picture on the cover shows a fifties, sideburned Elvis in his gold lame outfit. "A Fool Such as I" was a hit for Elvis' second manager, Hank Snow. Elvis first manager was Dewey Phillips, a Memphis dj. His third was Colonel Tom. This is a good album for Elvis fans and rockabilly lovers. RCAs best packaging of their fifties golden boy. The songs aren't as good as his earlier hits but overall this was and still is a winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars great early elvis, May 20, 2006

Recently, I decided to check out Elvis Golden Records volume 2. The version I have is the original 10 track album that runs about 22 minutes. Big Hunk o' Love, and many other of Elvis' gold singles make up this collection. This along with Golden Records volume 1, are great places to start building your elvis collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Elvis pre-Army works. That gold lam`e suit shines!, October 26, 2002
This review is from: 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
Posed in one of my favorite Elvis suits, and multiple Elvis' posed on there, it's great cover art to an album defining some of Elvi's greatest pre-Army songs! "A Big Hunk O' Love" is a big hunk o' great rock'n'roll. Its B-side "My Wish Came True" is a great romantic ballad and slows things down a bit. Then it gets sped up again with "A Fool Such As I" and "I Need Your Love Tonight". I don't know why there are two Christmas songs on here, but its a great extra track addition. More suitable for listening to around Christmas time. All the rest of the songs are feel-good rockin' classics. This is one defintive album that is essential to anybody's Elvis library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Elvis - Some of his best recordings!, July 9, 2002
By
Bob Martinez (Brooksville, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
This is essential stuff. The newly remastered CD with 20 cuts offers outstanding sound, but more important some of Elvis' finest songs. It covers the period of 1958-59. Most of the songs were released while he was away in the army, but most were recored in late '57 or early '58 while he was still a rockin' rebel. Oustanding rockers and ballads such as Don't, I Got Stung, A Fool Such As I, Hard Headed Woman, Big Hunk O Love and many more jems of the Elvis legend. Worth buying for the cover alone. Essential purchase for any Elvis fan, rock historian or new Elvis fan. It was these recording that perpetuated the Elvis mystique even while away in the Army and upon his return in 1960, he never quite equalled the excitement of the young Elvis as these recordings do.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHO IS ELVIS?, March 12, 2002

Is it possible not to like ELVIS'S golden records, especially since RCA have decided in 1997 to make them last longer than on their original release? The answer is no,you need at least the four cds that covers him well until 1968;volume5 is optionel.I personnaly discovered ELVIS with that collection, and you know what,it still delivers after thirty years.I've always liked A BIG HUNK OF LOVE and I GOT STUNG a lot.Maybe DON'T sounds corny by today's standards;the same can be said about MY WISH CAME TRUE but i don't care, this is the ELVIS we all loved. My title was of course a joke. After all, with all the look alike singer contest, everybody knows who he is,even if they never heard sing or seen his movies.
