A classic, but now superseded,
By A Fan (VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Elvis' Golden Records ( Paper Sleeve Collection Mini LP 24 bit 96 khz ) (Audio CD)
This was the first and the best of Elvis' Gold Record series. Released in 1958, it peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Album chart and would eventually sell more than 6 million copies in the US. It includes his early, historic RCA hits. It includes 9 number 1 hits in the US (Hound Dog, All Shook Up, Heartbreak Hotel, Jailhouse Rock, Too Much, Don't Be Cruel, Teddy Bear, Love Me Tender, and I Want You I Need You I Love You), another song that made the top ten (Love Me), and three other songs that hit the top 30 (Loving You, Treat Me Nice, and Anyway You Want Me). The only miss is That's When Your Heart Aches Begin which was the B-side of All Shook Up and was a minor hit peaking at 58 on the Billboard singles chart.
While this was a historic release in its day, it has since been superseded. There are better greatest hits collections available now, such as the outstanding Elv1s: 30 #1 Hits or the 3 CD HitStory collection.

This review is from: Elvis' Golden Records ( Paper Sleeve Collection Mini LP 24 bit 96 khz ) (Audio CD)
This is the first in a series of "Elvis' Golden Records", released in 1958 by his
label, RCA Victor. This collection is comprised of fourteen tracks which have been remastered from their original mono masters. Elvis is backed by Scotty Moore on guitar, Bill Black on stand up acoustic bass, and D.J. Fontana on drums. The great gospel backing by The Jordanaires completes the lineup. I have heard this album many times, and it is one of my all time favorites. Make no mistake, this is a great and masterful example of true, basic rock and roll at its best. Put this CD on your stereo, crank up the volume, and listen to the one and only King of Rock and Roll the way he was meant to be heard: in all his remastered, monophonic glory. |
